| mcmaster's Full Review: Panasonic RN-305 Handheld Cassette Voice Recorder |
I purchased this little recorder a couple of years ago. I was taking some art classes at my local college and very quickly found out why people were having a hard time getting an A in the Survey of Art History classes. Every day we would cover ten additional famous artists and there was no way that I was going to remember their names and their paintings. So I purchased a Panasonic Voice Activated Micro-cassette Player. Although this helped immensely, I still had to make copies of each painting in the text book and have my wife drill me every night on when, who and what the painting was. I would also listen to the professors lectures, which I had on my new gadget! I had a hard time learning the many famous artists from the past and their particular perspective or break though in painting, architecture and sculpture. But once I had it drilled into my head, I still remember most of the paintings and the artists that painted them.
Now I am writing a book about my life and my twenty years in the U.S. Army and National Guard. When I started out I figured that I would have no problem and just crank this book out, I was wrong. It has been quite an undertaking and very challenging. I have used my Panasonic Voice Activated Micro-cassette Player on several occasions while writing my book. I went home on leave for Christmas and was discussing my book with my parents. They thought it was a great idea and my dad said, Well, dont forget to add the time you shot a hole in your bedroom wall or the time you and your brother
. I laughed and decided to get my Panasonic Voice Activated Micro-cassette Player and record all of those moments that I had intentional forgotten, that my folks will never forget and get them on tape. The little tape player came in very handy!
While my guys continue to get medevaced out of Iraq for injuries sustained during battle, I meet every one of them as they make it back. Some of them are doing better than others and I try to help them get through this medical process and their issues. I am also asking them if I can include some of their actions in Iraq to my book. Every one of them have said, sure. I get my Panasonic Voice Activated Micro-cassette Player and listen to their stories, what they went through, what they did and what they saw. The Panasonic Voice Activated Micro-cassette Player is an excellent tool for interviews of any kind.

Final Thoughts
All in all I found the Panasonic Voice Activated Micro-cassette Player to be everything that I had expected. I have not had any trouble with the little machine. I have dropped the recorder a couple of times and chipped one corner, it still runs fine. I despise that cheap, hard brittle plastic that everything seems to be made from these days. It should all be rubber coated. The recorder picks up sound and voices pretty well in a room. I use the 2.4 tape speed for better quality. At this tape speed I am able to record for 1 hour per tape. If you choose to use the 1.2 play speed you can record for two hours per tape, but the quality is not as good. I want these tapes to last, so I use the 2.4 speed and try to purchase good quality tapes. I also use the tapes that have the little removable tabs, so I dont accidentally erase one of my interviews.
While the Panasonic Voice Activated Micro-cassette Player is not the most expensive model on the market, it gets the job done and keeps on working. The price for the recorder was very reasonable. I would not hesitate to buy one again, should I drop mine one too many times. I give the little recorder four of five stars.
Thanks for the read,
