I looked around a lot before buying a receiver, mainly because I didn't want to buy a receiver that didn't have DTS, but was still under $300. Sony delivered, and provided a receiver that is full of usable features.
The great thing about this receiver is that you can use either coaxial or optical input for your DVD players DTS feature. My DVD player, the Toshiba SD-1600 didn't have an optical output, but had a bitstream coaxial output, and as far as I can see, the difference is nil.
The features on the Sony range from being able to enjoy surround sound with only two speakers with a feature that Sony calls "virtual memory dimension", to cinema settings that recreate characteristics of Sony Pictures entertainment. The tuner has plenty of presets for memorizing your favorite stations, and you can input practically anything that you desire for your home entertainment system (LD,VCR's etc.).
This receiver is also very durable, not that I'm dropping it to find out, but it's built well, and the design is flawless. It's not the most powerful receiver that you can buy, obviously, but it drives my speakers (Pioneer S-H352F-K's) very well, and fills my home with crystal clear, full audio.
It suits my needs very well, because I enjoy watching DVD with surround, but it also satisfies my need to drive the speaker setup that I have. If I could think of anything that I'd like to have that the Sony doesn't have, it's a clock on the front LED readout, and that's a petty "want".
