| jasonrahn's Full Review: Onkyo TX-DS696 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I recently purchased this receiver to replace my old Onkyo TX-DS575 receiver. I did many side-by-side comparisons with other receivers before buying another Onkyo. When I brought the Onkyo TX-DS696 home and started it up, I was simply amazed at the sound and ease of use. The receiver cranks out a whopping 100 high current watts into 5 channels. There is absolutely no distortion at all in the sound, even at high volume (Something that you will not find in cheaper units such as Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc...). The receiver also has massive flexibility with Pro Logic II, Dolby Digital, and DTS decoding. The sound processing is so realistic, it continues to keep me on the edge of my seat. On board, there are 2 optical digital inputs, 2 coaxial digital inputs, 3 audio inputs, and 4 A/V inputs with S-Video options to connect just about any device to. The remote is absolutely a blessing. If you cannot find the code for a certain component that you own, all you have to do is point your source remote at the Onkyo remote, and bingo, it learns buttons from that remote. I love the idea that any component I buy in the future will also be compatible with this receivers remote.
