Pros: Combination DVD-VHS player. Easy to install and set up. Easily managed remote.
Cons: Not top-quality video on VHS.
The Bottom Line: As the world moves from tape to disk, the DVR4000 allows users to play both on a single machine.

| nedhop's Full Review: Soyo DVR4000 DVD Player / VCR Combo |
The DVR4000 has one overarching advantage: it plays both DVDs and VHS tapes. The audio quality is as good as I get from either of my VCRs or my one DVD-only player. The DVD video is as good; the VHS video a bit less so. (The DVD4000 is hooked up to a large-screen, top-of-the-line Hitachi projection TV. My other DVD and VHS players have been connected to the same TV at one time or another.)
Set up is remarkably easy -- much more so than my Toshiba or Mitsubishi VCRs or my RCA DVD player. Similarly, the remote is easier to use.
The cabinet is attractive, though larger than any of my other DVD or VHS players.
A couple more advantages:
1. The DVR4000 allows users to copy DVDs to VHS tapes.
2. The user can watch a DVD while recording a television program on tape.
The price I paid reflects a 10 percent discount awarded for use of my Target VISA card.
