| dangergirl's Full Review: Pioneer DEH-2300 Car CD Player |
I bought this CD player because my 1994 Sunbird only had a tape player, and I thought it was about time to get a CD player. I bought this player at Future Shop, which is like the Canadian version of Best Buy. I bought it for about 250 dollars CDN, and because of the price, the store had a special going on that gave me free installation- which would normally cost around $80. I still had to buy parts though- so that the player would fit into my car, and that ran me about another 50 dollars.
SOUND
This CD player is amazing! The reciever delivers 50 watts of power to each of the 4 speakers in your car. It totally enhances the sound of my factory speakers, and the pre-set equilibrium options are good for different types of music. The pre-set options are vocal, super bass, flat, natural, and custom. I prefer using the "VOCAL" option, which has the least amount of bass, and lots of treble, and then I leave the "LOUD" button on. The "LOUD" button is like a bass boost, and it really pumps up the volume!
The Custom option is good for if you listen to different types of music. When I listen to my hip hop, and heavy bass music, I like to put it at the setting described above, and for rock music I have my own settings which I can retreive by using the CUSTOM option.
There are many options when it comes to fine tuning the sound. There are bass and treble & fade and balance. There is also an option to even out the volume of the radio and CD player. This means that when you switch from the CD to the radio, it wont be blasting loud because you can adjust it so that they are both even! It is a great idea.
CD PLAYER
The CD player is CDR/CDRW compatible so you can listen to your home-made CD's, and also has repeat and a random option, so you can program your own playlist. The playlist can be as long as 24 songs in a row. There is also a sample option where you can listen to the first 10 seconds of every song until you find the song you are looking for.
There is an anti-shock mechanism, and I have never had this player skip on me yet.
When you turn the car off and back on again, the CD picks up from the point it left off so you don't have to listen to the start of the song over again.
There is no mute button. While playing a CD you can press pause, but while listening to the radio, you'd have to turn the volume down.
TUNER
The stereo has 6 pre-set radio buttons, including FM1, FM2, FM3, and AM, for a total of 24 programmable radio stations. It also has an option for you to program every radio station in order every time you turn the car on, which is great if you are traveling and you always lose the stations.
Programming each station is easy, because all you have to do is press and hold down one of the numbers, and the station sets to that number. Or you can go through all the stations manually if you like as well.
The buttons all glow blue and green when the lights are dim or it is dark. It's not too bright like some displays I have seen. It is just right.
The stereo displays the radio station, or the CD time for the first 30 seconds after pressing a button, and then it displays the time, unless you press another button. You can switch back and forth as well by pressing the "clock" button.
There is no remote control that comes with this unit, but you can buy one separatly if you really need one!
I use this player every single day and I have not had a serious problem except that the volume button used to stick-it doesn't anymore though, so its fine now.
I have even seen this stereo in tanning beds that I have gone into! They build the stereo right into the bed so you can listen you CD's or the radio while lying there. It is a very popular model because it is so reliable and a good deal for the price.
Ok one negative thing that I just thought of, is that the faceplatedoesnt come with a case, so it may get scratched etc., when it is in your purse or pocket.
This stereo was well worth the money I spent, and I am definitely comfortable with my purchase!
