If you are looking for a portable minidisc recorder with an AM/FM Radio, then this is the one for you. The MZ-G750DPC is a top of the line Sony minidisc recorder. If you have no use for the radio, you might consider the Sony MZ-R700. It is basically the same model, but without the radio.
This is my second portable minidisc recorder and I love it! It's small, light, and the sound quality is fantastic. The unit can use a single AA battery or the included rechargeable battery. Battery life is excellent, about 10+ hours on a full charge. The G750 comes with the new MDLP recording modes. On an 80 minute disc (about $2), you can now record 320 minutes (best for voice recordings), 160 minutes (what I use for music), or 80 minutes (which is the highest quality). The 160 minute mode gives you the best bang for your buck because you give up very little in sound quality but you can get over 2 CD's worth of music on a single minidisc.
The MZ-G750DPC comes with Sony's street style headphones, an AC power adapter, and a Digital PC link (hence the DPC in the model number) which allows you to record music digitally from any computer with a USB port (including my Macintosh!). You can also easily record from any stereo with a line out or you can attach a microphone for live recordings. The tuner is built into the wired remote, but it must be connected to the mindisc recorder to power it. I am very satisfied with the reception I get from the tuner. I live in the Los Angeles area and I have found that I can use the radio almost everywhere I go, though in some areas I have to listen in mono instead of stereo to get rid of the static.
There are very few drawbacks to the G750. There is an annoying bulge on the back of the unit over the battery housing. I considered getting the Sony MZ-R900 which does not have the bulge because it uses a slim battery instead of an AA. In the end I went with the G750 because I wanted the radio. Another drawback is that recording must be done in real time, meaning that you must play the entire song that you are recording. This is something that Sony is addressing next year (2002) when they release the NetMD minidisc recorders that can record from a PC computer at 4 times real time. I decided not to wait for the NetMD units because 1) my Macintosh will not be supported on release, and 2) none of the three units that Sony will release have a radio.
Overall, I highly recommend the MZ-G750DPC. I use mine quite a bit and have not had a single problem with it. It's very comfortable to wear at the gym or around town and it has never skipped on me. I bought mine from Giftsplash.com which had the lowest price that I could find.
