| matt_walker5's Full Review: JBL PB12 Subwoofer Speaker |
When properly configured, this subwoofer can produce some of the MOST ACCURATE low frequency sounds that exist. The tone of 50 Hz can vary, the tone of a 25Hz frequency can vary, but this subwoofer has the potential to reproduce each and every frequency with ANY tonality matching the original precisely.
I have heard several high-power subwoofers, including BIC V1215, a 325watt 12" subwoofer, and I have to say, this JBL PB12 simply is the best.
Typically, most subwoofers have an OVERHANG to the bass, typical subwoofers produce boomy bass that is not characteristic of the music, the original analog rendition, or your ears' likeness, but the PB12 NEVER has any OVERHANG.
This subwoofer is so accurate, I watched movie over movie, played track after track, and this sub NEVER disappoints.
It is very powerful too, I have totally maxed it out on occasion, yet it doesn't flinch, it handles the Dolby Digital .1 LFE track with supreme precision and accurately sculpts the waveform into a smooth axis from 23Hz on up.
Never before have I had such CRISP, CLEAN, and TIGHT BASS.
I listen to music about 8+ hours a day during the summer, EVERY DAY. I hate it when I hear TOO MUCH BASS (and OVERHANG) that totally wastes your ears after 1 song. THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN WITH THE PB12, although it is powerful, it never bends the sound waves into different frequencies.
The subwoofer is quite heavy and is constructed fairly well. The driver is built excellently, I actually took the driver out of the sub once, and I was impressed with the size of the magnet structure, and the spider and diagphragm. It's a very solid professional driver.
JBL has taken a PROFESSIONAL CONCERT series subwoofer (a $2000 subwoofer) and transformed it into a $200 one. You cannot go wrong with the PB12.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Some people have had some problems with the electronics on the PB12. To clarify some things up right now.
1) Buy from an authorized dealer or dignified online reseller, the best place to buy from is www.etronics.com
2) Never use the subwoofer for more than 2-3 hours at a time.
3) Never keep the subwoofer's amplifier on for more than 4 hours at a time (in normal temps).
4) Always use a surge protector
5) use a quality cable with good EMI shielding
6) Try not to run your cables too close to AC power lines/receptacles or computers
ELECTRONICS GET HOT, NO MATTER WHO MAKES THE SUB, THESE PEOPLE WHO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE SUBWOOFER'S AMP DO NOT CARE FOR IT.
I HAVE NOT HAD A SINGLE PROBLEM WHATSOEVER WITH THIS SUBWOOFER AND RECOMMEND IT TO ANYBODY, REGUARDLESS OF MUSIC TYPES, PREFERENCES OR SOUND SYSTEMS.
The JBL PB12 will NOT dissappoint!
I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT VERY STRONGLY!!!
