| dbauer2000's Full Review: Pioneer S-DW1-K Subwoofer Speaker |
I picked up this sub along with the Pioneer 811S receiver about a year ago and the combination of the two changed my view of home theater. I have been in may dorm rooms during college and my stint in the Air Force and have heard many LOUD systems, none that I would want to duplicate in my home though. I only have the bass turned up about 40% because this little puppy puts out too much for my 11X16 room, and thats on hardwood floors!
A funny story about this purchase though, I bought it from etronics.com and when I opened it and set it up, I thought it was broken. I monkey'd with it, read the manual, monkey'd with it some more, almost sent it back, all because I wasn't getting much bass out of it. I thought maybe because it was so cheap that this is what a low priced sub sounds like. It sat in my room for 3 days before I decided to give it another try. I played around with the crossover and while reaching down the back of the sub I heard a click. All of a sudden BOOM, BOOM, BOOM....I guess I should have payed attention to the manual (and common sense). The click I heard was the power switch. 4 days of monkeying and cussing just to realize that all that college and all the real world experience I have amounts to diddly-squat. Nothing like a little humiliation to put things into perspective.
