Pros: Plethora of inputs and outputs. Better than average sound quality.
Cons: Menu System and Styling.
The Bottom Line: An average remote, styling, and menu are all made up for by the beautiful, precise, lifelike sound.

| rdytorave's Full Review: Yamaha HTR-5440 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I have a VCR and DVD player going into this Receiver. The Receiver powers 4 Yamaha Bookshelf Speakers plus a great Yamaha Center Channel. It's also got a Yamaha Powered Sub that impresses. I bought this Receiver a year ago for $300 on Yahoo! shopping. The key feature that stands out on this receiver is the wattage. For $300, 65x5 watts is not a lot of power compared to Receivers from Sony or JVC. But an old adage states that Quality is better than Quantity and that fits Yamaha fine. While you could buy a 100x5 watt Sony receiver for the same price, the sound would be much worse. Louder, but worse. A good rule to remember when looking for a receiver is that less wattage for more money = better sound than more wattage for less money. This receiver has crystal clear highs all the way down to deep, strong lows. The remote is skinny and is not backlit. The receiver has about as much style as an old grandma, the menu could be better, but the sound makes up for it all. I love my receiver it was worth every penny.
