Great for a small room

Pros: Easy to set up, Great imaging. Surprising bass.
Cons: Sub shuts off at low volume levels
The Bottom Line: I gave this an average rating because that's what the sound quality is. However if considering price and value this would be an excellent.

I just finished building a home theater. After upgrading to a Denon AV Receiver and progressive scan DVD. My son asked if I could connect the older pro logic receiver and DVD player in his room, together with his television and Playstation 2. After agreeing, it was decided that we would go to CC and buy the lowest priced 5.1 surround speaker system that we could find to complete his entertainment center. I ended up finding this Yamaha system.
After connecting everything in my sons larger than average bedroom. We were surprised at the great sound. The imaging is great! Although I have read that others were not happy with the bass, we are and it really shakes the whole room during playstation games. Yet is still clear when playing music. At a rating of only 50 watts, maybe the bass would not be so great in a larger room but connected in our environment, no problems.
It comes complete with wires (they did not look high quality) and wall mount brackets. Although I did not make full use of all the "extras". I must comment that Yamaha made an effort to think of the little things.
I have occasionally found that the sub simply stops working when listening at very low sound levels. I believe that this is because the auto off feature is a little too sensitive and shuts down the sub. Since my son does not listen to anything low, it has not happened often.
This is connected to an older Dolby Pro Logic receiver and DirecTV. The sound is great and the price was right!
