| nsmith_nz's Full Review: Yamaha NS-P220 Speaker System |
While spending the past three weeks looking for a good introductory set of home theatre speakers, I narrowed my search down to two sets: the Yamaha NSP220s and the Polk Audio RM6000, priced at $NZ899 and $NZ1299 respectively. After listening to each set three times, I finally decided on the NSP220s. The only difference I could notice while listening was that the Polk sub was a bit heavier and punchier than the Yamaha. However, I couldn't justify spending an extra $NZ400 for such a small difference.
I bought the Yahamas on Friday afternoon, had them connected just before dinner, rented two DVDs and simply couldn't believe how great they sounded! I would definitely recommend the NSP220s for anyone looking for a set of good intro speakers for home theatre.
I was additionally surprised at how well the speakers sound with music CD's. Very clear, crisp and full.
Also, even though the Polk speakers looked a bit more stylish in design, their construction looked 'cheaper' than the Yamahas.
