| wolfram's Full Review: Kenwood HTB-504 Theater System |
I did more theater-in-a-box shopping before purchase than ten normal people. Money was of some interest to me and I wanted good value for my dollars. I purchased mine from MJShow.com on 6/7/01 for $399 + $35 shipping. It arrived promptly and well packed by Kenwood.
The manual discloses that hook-up can be complex. I had tv, dss, vcr, dvd, tape deck, and phono. The manual was not perfect, but I succeeded in getting everything to work and I got alot of hobby satisfaction out of doing so. (I am a rocket scientist and a brain surgeon, but it was all the challenge I needed.)
I am very satisfied with my purchase. The unit is heavy, sturdy, and appears to be well built. I know you can spend more, but the speakers sound great. All of my guests who have seen a dvd movie at my house agree the sound is great. The speakers will shake my house before there is noticeable distortion!
You do have to be a knobologist to operate my system. I don't have any trouble, but my wife has been slow to learn how.
The receiver does put out alot of heat. My installation was snug, so I added a $20 Radio Shack cabinet fan.
