Pros: breathability, appearance invites questions from others
Cons: only if you use it not as designed: rock bruising, wet factor.
The Bottom Line: Want to go fast on flat surfaces while keeping your feet dry, or just want to wear something "cool"? Great. Want more? Then choose another shoe.

| rookshark's Full Review: Adidas ClimaCool Running Shoe |
I am reviewing the climacool II, and I wanted to state that since I am aware of three generations already, but only see this general climacool shoe for review.
I bought these about 6 months ago because I was intrigued with the concept (cushioned, but "airy"), and I got them online for $35. I live where it is warm all year, so the weather was not a factor in my decision.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing I noticed wearing these shoes was that they are indeed cushioned, and adequately even given my robust stature. Granted, there are holes in the mid and outsole, but still I felt like they were comfy. Now, should you be running on anything but nice flat surfaces, maybe you should be a bit more cautious. Obviously with the holes in the bottoms of the shoes, getting a rock in there for possible bruising or just throwing you for a loop is a possibility. I would not say the shoes are terribly unstable, rather, given the mesh and nature of the shoe, I would almost say I was surprised to the degree which they are stable. Bottom line here? Get another pair if you want to run in less than optimum conditions.
Ok, so are they "airy"? You bet. I ran in these shoes for a while, and if a stiff breeze is coming at you, you will feel it. Same goes for if you are sitting in front of a fan at home...quite a refreshing sensation I must say. Speaking of that...something I had heard from someone else also proved to be true for me: The shoes do not stink! Not a big selling factor for me, but hey, if you want to have fresh feet, then this is your shoe, running or not. This is as close to sandals you will get while still covering your entire foot I would think.
Are they durable? Well, yes and no. These will definitely be toast for running before 500 miles...due to the midsole construction, the rubber used will simply bottom quicker than other soles over time, and be less comfy. Otherwise, I have noticed no abnormal wear issues with the shoe (no issue with the holes and the mesh there, or the mesh on the shoe, or the plastic front toe piece, etc.). I doubt that even after I quit using them for running I will throw them out. They are great for around the house use, just slip them on and you are ready to go all day in them, even after using them for running.
Basically, this is what I would call a technical shoe, not because it has many technical features (ok, it does have a few) but more because "technically" I do not need this shoe. You could get many other shoes if you are going to have just one pair to run in that will take you wherever the pavement might end, or when weather turns a bit wet. However, if you are like me, and have several pairs of shoes to choose from, then this makes a nice addition...more so when they are on sale for less than $100.
Finally, let me just sum up everything in the following: This is a good shoe for anyone IF:
1. They have other multi-use shoes (for when you are going to be on trails, gravel, uneven pavement or other not smooth surfaces)
2. They only want to run on treadmills
3. They want to just wear running shoes for casual wear
I would not recommend this shoe as your ONLY running shoe or casual shoe for that matter, as there are obvious times when it will not be the right choice: cold weather, rain, snow, dirt (your socks will reflect any dirt or mud you may happen upon) any type of imperfect surfaces, anytime you need lateral support. Why not? The shoe was not designed with any of those activities in mind.
