| rudixeno's Full Review: Aero Deluxe AeroBed Mattress (Twin, Full, Queen, K... |
I cant remember just how many years ago I saw my first infomercial for the Aero Bed. It looked interesting, but at the time we had so many bedrooms and beds it wasnt really something we needed. But with the oldest Xeno girls out of the house and our desire to move south it was the perfect time to down-size everything. Between the time the girls moved out and we moved south something amazing happened. We learned there was going to be one more Xeno girl to raise. So, after the shock wore off and we could appreciate the gift we were being blessed with we made our way south with a three year stay in New Hope, PA.
By the time we reached our home in Boca Raton, FL we had settled on a 3 bedroom house that just swept us off our feet. In no time however that third bedroom became a cozy den and home office. Our youngest daughter, Jenna (J.J. to the outside world), soon was coming to the age where sleepovers became the norm. At first, no problem because her room had two single beds. A friend could take one of them. But then we got her a new bed. A full bed with the canopy and all the rest. And pretty soon there were two or three friends staying over. Our answer to this dilemma? The Aero Bed.
One day while exploring ubid.com, I came across the Aero Bed Deluxe Full Mattress. They must have had a hundred or two up for auction. So, I placed a bid. Im pretty sure our winning bid was just $59. If youre familiar with this bed you realize just what a steal this was. But, forget the price for the time being. What about the bed?
The Aero Bed Deluxe Full Mattress
The Aero Bed Deluxe is a multi-cell inflatable mattress that quickly sets up, quickly breaks down and folds into a handy storage sack. It comes with its own electrical inflator, so once its plugged in and the air release valve/lock is closed it takes just 60 seconds to fully inflate. Seriously, it fully inflates in just 60 seconds. Just press the button.
Once inflated it resembles no air mattress I was familiar with as a young scout. This is a comfortable supportive bed. At its core it is a plastic mattress with multiple air cells for stability and support. The Deluxe model has a cotton cloth finish to it that makes it more comfortable and eliminates any of the plastic squishy sounds (God! I love to talk technical). Our Aero Bed now is probably going on four years and it still works flawlessly.
The Sleepover
When Jenna is having friends stay over and the good Mrs. Xeno orders up the mattress, not a groan leaves my lips. Were talking easy, convenient, comfortable and from the kids point of view, fun. When the sleepover is over, off comes the standard size sheet, I pull the release valve and deflation seems almost instantaneous. I fold each side in, roll it like a sleeping bag and it fits perfectly into its storage sack. I have read reviews stating some difficulty getting it back into its sack but that has never been an issue here.
The Unexpected Guest
Every once in a while we have a guest that needs to sleep over. No problem. The Aero Bed is placed in the third bedroom/den/office and so far no one has ever complained. Whats to complain about? Youre in South Florida, youre with the Xenos and its not costing you a penny! Life is good!
The Unforeseen Emergency
During Hurricane Wilma, the storm blew out our master bedroom windows on the second floor. Once my wits kicked in again following the shock of the scene in front of me, I threw our King sized mattress against the void and held the storm out of our house for the next several hours. If Mrs. Xeno were standing over my shoulder she would be coughing now, indicating that this move just might have been her idea. Why quibble? Shes a very resourceful person.
But, suffice it to say, our regular mattress was ruined as a result. For the next several weeks, the Aero Bed was what we slept on each and every night while we waited for the delivery of our new bed. Despite the fact that it is a Full sized bed rather than a King, I must say we slept quite well.
When we received our Aero Bed Deluxe it came with a repair kit that resembled something like a bicycle tire repair kit. You know, a patch, some cement and a roller. But despite it occasionally being used as a trampoline by my daughter and her friends it has remained whole and I wonder if I could even find the kit if I needed it.
Summing Up
Clearly, the Aero Bed Deluxe has proven to be one of my smartest purchases. It combines convenience, comfort and portability in one product package. And, although we purchased it at a bargain basement price, I wouldnt hesitate to pay the full $199 price if I had to replace it. Do we recommend it? Indeed we do.
Regards,
Rudi
