| wamba2000's Full Review: Aiwa AV-D98 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I replaced an old Pioneer receiver that didn't have Dolby digital or DTS with the D-98. Power is reasonable and I was able to purchase on-line for under $150. I have read that Aiwa is owned by Sony and they are cleaning house. It may mean some more bargains.
From a sound standpoint, I have no complaints. Set-up was tricky, but not out of character with all the multi-function receivers in the market. When I connected my speakers to bi-amp them, the sound was terrible. After checking and rechecking the connections, I finally undid the second set of wires and performance was fine. Go figure.
The remote is especially troublesome. The printing is done in green and is hard to see, even if under a light. They do not use the conventional 123, 456, 789, 0 setup for channel selection, so you always are hunting. Could have bought an off the shelf universal remote and done as well.
My advice: find a bargain price. At $150 it's a good buy; at $300, there are better in the market.
