The Bottom Line: If you are finding little relief with Aspirin, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc., give Aleve a try.

| tiggerrrrr's Full Review: Aleve Pain Reliever |
Comparison to other medications:
I used Tylenol for years and it never really helped whatever condition I was taking it for. Then, I was introduced to Ibuprofen in about 1992 after my sister had knee surgery and was taking it as a pain reliever and an anti-inflammatory. I decided to start using Ibuprofen because it helped somewhat with whatever condition was bothering me. I never really get severe headaches or pains to take medication so I never really looked for any other medication. One thing that was never helped by Tylenol or Ibuprofen was cramps. That's when I tried taking Aleve for the first time. It made an amazing difference and helped almost immediately. It is also an anti-inflammatory and a fever reducer. Because of this, Aleve is the only pain medication I buy now.
How quickly does the medicine take effect? How long does one dose last?
Aleve works within a half an hour (I never really notice when medication takes effect so it could be quicker than that) and last 12-24 hours. Usually by the time I am supposed to take a second dose, the pain is no longer present.
What are the particular side effects and interactions?
Aleve is similar to Ibuprofen in that it can cause stomach problems if taken to frequently or if a stomach condition already exists, but if you are not prone to stomach problems and take it as directed, you should be ok. As with all medications, if you notice that it might be causing you a problem, discontinue use and consult your doctor. People taking Ace Inhibitors should consult their doctors about Aleve because there can be a possible drug interaction related to the kidneys.
Why did you purchase this medication?
I purchased this medication because of it's duration and the fact that it was able to help me when no other pain reliever would. I also purchased it to help with cramps rather than medications like Midol because there is caffeine in Midol and you are supposed to avoid caffeine (which is found in coffee, cola and chocolate) and I don't like having to do that or possibly face the consequences of forgetting.
Would you purchase this again? Why or why not?
Yes, I would definitely purchase this again. It is the only pain reliever I need to buy. It is also a quick fever reducer and it's nice when your sick to be able to take it and forget about it for 12 hours rather than having to keep taking a medication every 4-6 hours. When you're sick, that is definitely a good thing.
Under the cons I mentioned the cost. I would consider this the biggest con, but even at it's price, I would still buy it. It is definitely more affordable to buy the 'store brand' naproxen sodium (Aleve's scientific name). For comparison, a 200 count bottle of 220mg Aleve costs $12.35 as compared to the store brand of the same quantity and dosage for $7.97. The specific store where the prices were quoted from is irrelevant - any major grocery store, discount or drug store is going to have their own brand that they sell for cheaper than the name brand. For example: Wal-Mart, Osco/SavOn and Hy-Vee all have their own brands, if you compare the ingredients, you will see that they are the same. The only thing you are paying so much extra for when you buy Aleve is the brand name since they have to fund their advertising.
