Pros: Low price, plays MP3 formatted disks.
Cons: Skips way too much.
The Bottom Line: Even though the picture and sound of the DVD is really good, it's better to spend a little more and get one that won't skip.

| voices220's Full Review: Apex Digital AD500WM DVD Player |
I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet. This was my first (and currently only) DVD player. My wife and I bought it for three reasons 1) We wanted a DVD player 2) We didn't have a lot of money 3) I wanted a DVD player that would play MP3 formatted disks.
Now, with those 3 criteria in mind, this seemed to be the perfect choice, especially to one who's never owned a DVD player. The Apex 500W was capable of playing MP3 formatted disks (which was something I really wanted), and was only $99 at the time, compared to the computers being about $150 and up at the time (the $150 DVD players not being able to play MP3 formatted disks). When we found this player, we jumped at the chance to buy it.
At first glance, the player seemed great. The MP3 part of the device worked great. I have a CD writer, and I have several MP3 disks as backups to my audio CDs. So, I could pop in a disk, and listen to hours of music without having to get up and change disks.
Also, at first, our DVDs looked great when played. We had quite a few DVDs already, because our first computer had a DVD ROM.
However, it was not long that we noticed that several DVDs skipped, or hiccupped, when played. At first, we just assumed that that's what DVDs did. Then, there were a few times where the DVD would just stop all together at a certain spot. We took these DVDs over to my parents house, as well as my brother's house, and tested them on their DVD players. Guess what? The DVDs played just fine at their houses.
At first I thought that we had just gotten a bum player. Then, my brother in law got the exact same DVD player, and he told us about similar experience. In fact, there were a few DVDs he borrowed from us and couldn't watch on his DVD player, even though those same DVDs played on ours.
Well, after many months of testing, we have come to find that our DVDs were fine, it's just the DVD player that was not working properly. Unfortunately, we do not have the money to get a good player, so we are currently stuck with what we've got.
So now I am going to leave you with this bit of advice: if you are going to spend the money to get a DVD player, you might as well spend a little extra to get one that's going to work right. And now, you can get a really good DVD player that can play Mp3s, CD-Rs, and Video CDs, for just a little more money.
