Pros: Nice looking, easy to start up, simple to operate computer.
Cons: I missed having a floppy drive.
The Bottom Line: This computer is more than adequate for Web editing, PhotoShop use, and more. Great machine at a very low price.

Because all the work I do is pro bono, I'm pretty slow to upgrade. I had been puttering along quite happily with my G3/300, even though I knew that processing speed and hard disk size was becoming something of a problem.
When the eMac came out, I took the proverbial "just one look" and was ready to roll.
The foot print (the amount of space taken up) of the computer and monitor is TINY, really, and it looks so cool that I might actually have to clean up my office. The instructions out of the box were just a series of large photos, the ultimate technical writing: no words. We literally had it up and running in about five minutes.
There were really no anomalies, no difficulties in using this machine. We consider buying a swivel stand but made the judgment that I'd just try it out without the stand -- and it is fine. I did add 256 MB extra memory, which is about the minimum I would recommend that anyone who stacks multiple applications (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, a browser, sometimes a word processing program) add. People who are using the computer just for, say, word processing, Internet browsing, and occasional photo processing can probably get by with less -- though I suspect that they'll want to add at least 128.
Because I use a Sony digital camera, I quickly had to add an external floppy drive; it was cheap and no problem to install.
When people talk about not liking Macs because they can't get under the hood, I really have no idea what they are talking about. We finally brought a Dull Windoze machine into the house several months ago and, in addition to the frequent crashes, it is much harder to make that machine work the way I would like it to. Maybe it's a matter of what one is used to, but I notice that my friends and colleagues who use Windoze spend a LOT more time thinking about how to make their computers work. Those of us who use Macs simply get to work.
After talking with people at the Apple Store here, we ended up being able to negotiate a better total price on the computer and various peripherals we wanted to upgrade at the same time at CompUSA and their support was adequate.
Some of the people I work with went for iMacs months ago and God bless them. They are snazzy looking little machines. For what I do, which is quite a bit, an eMac is hundreds of dollars less and completely enough.
