| kzdad's Full Review: Apple iPhone (8 GB) Smartphone |
For months, we watched the advertisements, some of us scoured the internet for reviews, and watched a plethora of YouTube videos to learn more about the iPhone as we waited in anticipation for it's release. And then it happened... people were lined up at the local ATT Wireless stores with their lawn chairs and lunch buckets filled with their favorite snacks, waiting for the doors to open so they could be the first to sport the new iPhone.
After handing over $600 to the smiling cashier, she places in your hand, an elegant black box with the sticker showing you the iPhone that's inside and embossed with details of it's contents. Heart racing with the pacing of one's feet back to their vehicles, eager to open the box, but have to dodge through traffic to get to the house and then finally... as a proud iPhone owner, you open the box.
Inside the box lays the beautiful iPhone, a docking device, the USB cord, instruction manual, and wiping cloth.
In order to use the iPhone, you must go through iTunes and set it up, then after it's activated with your ATT account plus the $29.99/month fee for unlimited internet usages via their internet, then you're good to go. You can also set your phone up with your wireless internet at home or in WiFi hotspots all over, which is my recommendation because the internet works a lot better with WiFi than ATT's standard internet service.
On the start-up screen of the iPhone, you are going to find several options to choose from. You can choose to send a text message, go into your calendar where you can set dates for birthday, appointments, and so forth, or you can click on photos and find the iPhone preset photos or the photos from your camera roll that you take with the iPhone, but you can also use a calculator, set up the stock options to your needs, find directions with the maps option, check the weather, use the notepad, view the world clock, or go into your settings so you can change your ringtones and such. On the bottom of the screen, you'll find the phone option where you go to make calls, or the mail option so you can check your gmail, yahoo mail, or another mail service you would like to set up. There's also the web browser so you can surf any website you would like to surf, or of course, the iPod option where you will find all your music.
There are some things about the iPhone that Apple and ATT do not want you to know. For instance, if you have wireless internet at home and want to save the $29.99/month, call them and tell them to take it off and to block the internet and this will eliminate accidental access to ATT's internet service which will add charges to your bill that aren't pretty. Also, with the iPod option, if you already have music in your computer, then set them up with your iTunes, and then they will go in your phone once you sync the phone.
You can alter the iPhone to your likings by using downloads such as iBrickr, etc... but I do not recommend this if you don't know what you're doing. But by doing so, you could turn your iPhone into a gaming phone, a virtual guitar, and so many other things.
I love the iPhone because it's very durable. I accidentally dropped it face down on the sidewalk one night and my heart nearly exploded because I thought it was over. The phone didn't get a single scratch at all! I would sit for hours watching YouTube videos or mySpacing or even emailing back and forth with friends in my yahoo groups.
I totally recommend the phone to all of you. It's sort of like having a laptop that fits in your pocket. It takes very nice pictures but what I didn't like is that you can't make videos with it. Some of us like video phones! All the features are very easy to use however, so you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. iTunes may be a little tricky for you at first, but it's also easy! I would recommend buying a case of some sort to protect your phone from potential harm, but if I dropped mine on a sidewalk without a scratch, then maybe you don't need one.
