| education1's Full Review: Athens Pizza House - Decatur |
I just retired from working in Decatur for eight years. During that time my husband and I discovered lunch at Athens Pizza House. What a find! At first I ordered dishes like Veal or Chicken Parmasagna or Lasagna. Both are yummy!
I also loved the garlic bread they served with entree's like these. My husband pretty much stuck with the lasagna every time. He's like that...always orders one item no matter where we eat.
In the past year I have been on the South Beach Diet and, as a result, I discovered Athens' Grilled Chicken Salad. It is great because the chicken actually is grilled, not white like it's been baked! The best part of the salad, however, is the "dipping sauce" that comes in a small dish with it. I asked the waitress what it's made from and she said sometimes they use yogurt, other times mayonnaise and cilantro is always used. This sauce keeps the chicken from being dry and I can eat this meal without guilt.
The atmosphere at Athens Pizza is very Mediteranean and at the same time "family dinner". Since it is owned and operated by the same Greek family who started in many years ago, many of the servers are family members and most are clearly Greek people. They are very animated and interesting people. And at lunchtime there are often family events happening when you walk in.
I've recently retired and I so much miss lunch at Athens Pizza House. Occasionally when I have a doctor's appointment at Emory, I'll plan lunch with a friend at Athens.
It's hard to believe anyone reading this review who lives in the Decatur area hasn't discovered Athens Pizza yet, but just in case you're new, let me recommend it to you. It is worth your time and money. And by the way, the lunch menu is around $6 for most entree's, although I'm not familiar with evening prices.
