| becktuck's Full Review: Audiovox CDM-4000 Cell Phone |
I purchased this phone when it was first introduced (about a year and a half ago) based on the recommendation of my cellular rep, who is also a trusted friend. I requested something small with lots of talk time and he sent me this Audiovox. He promised that I would love it and he was absolutely right.
I once forgot to bring my charger while out of town for the weekend -- I used my phone constantly and the battery still had some juice when I got home! I use this phone in lieu of a home phone, so a dependable battery is essential and it hasn't let me down once.
It has a pretty nice array of standard features, including allowing you to input more than one telephone number for each person in your directory. You can also program a special ring for each person, so you know who's calling before you answer -- a VERY handy feature.
It also has a nice variety of security features, easy keypad lock, call waiting caller i.d., voicemail alerts and paging capabilities. My cellular provider does not require area codes, and this phone offers an easy way to include them when you're in another area.
I do wish that it had more than four "standard" (i.e. non-tune playing) rings. From my experience, most people don't seem to want their phones to play tinny musical tunes. While this phone does have a "silent alert" feature -- a weak beep instead of a full ring -- it does not have a vibrate feature. Also, it is almost impossible to activate the "silent alert" feature without activating a ring first...not very handy when the entire purpose of "silent alert" is to be quiet.
Also, the phone has "cut out" a few times without warning. This happens so infrequently, however, that I think it may have more to do with my service provider. Otherwise, the sound is very clear almost all the time. Occasionally, you'll get an echo, but not often enough to detract from the value of the phone.
Overall though, I think this phone is an excellent value, with many features I would expect from a more expensive phone. I also dig the slim, silver design -- and my friends do too. I found the phone very easy to use (of course, it always helps if you at least skim the manual) and easy to program.
