serc's Full Review: Bath & Body Works Pleasures Body Lotion
I have a really hard time passing up any kind of lotion or shower gel, especially if it is on sale. This past spring I was in Bath and Body Works shopping and I saw that they had small bottles of their Pleasures Body Lotion in their new scent, Cherry Blossom. Normally these sample size bottles are priced at $3.50 each, but they were $1.00 that particular day and I couldnt resist. It turns out that, while I like the lotion, Im not crazy about the Cherry Blossom fragrance.
My bottle of Bath and Body Works Pleasures lotion is a small version of the regular retail size. Both bottles are made of clear plastic and feature a twist-off cap made of a white-ish semi-opaque plastic. The regular retail size might also have a flip top, but the sample size does not to dispense I just take the cap off and pour the lotion right out of the bottle. The front of the bottle has basic product information on it, including the name of the product, the brand name and the amount the bottle holds; the back features an ingredients list. It also has a notation reading this finished product is not tested on animals. (Im glad they didnt test the finished product on animals, but they dont say anything about the ingredients themselves, which makes me a little leery of Bath and Body Works with regard to animal testing.) My sample size bottle contains 2 ounces (59 mL) of lotion, while the retail size contains 8 ounces of lotion.
The lotion itself is sort of a typical body lotion texture it isnt runny, but it isnt thick like a body cream, either. I can pour it out easily but still control it well enough that I dont get far too much on my hand. The Cherry Blossom lotion is light pink in color, but the other Pleasures lotion scents have different colors to them. Im not sure how to describe the Cherry Blossom scent, except to say that it is a floral that smells exactly like a cherry blossom. When the scent premiered at Bath and Body Works they had cherry blossom branches in the store and I went up to it and smelled it to compare the scent. I was impressed by how close the smell was. Unfortunately, Im not a huge lover of florals and, while I like the Cherry Blossom scent, it isnt one that I want to use very often.
Luckily, Bath and Body Works offers Pleasures Body Lotion in several other scents, many of which I do enjoy. Choices include Black Raspberry Vanilla, Coconut Lime Verbena, Cotton Blossom, Moonlight Path, Peony, Sweet Pea, and Warm Vanilla Sugar. I find that the Warm Vanilla Sugar gives me a headache when I try it on in the store, but I do enjoy the Coconut Lime Verbena and a lot of the other scents, too.
My bottle of Pleasures Body Lotion doesnt include directions, but body lotion is pretty easy to use. I usually smooth it on right after I take my morning shower; I pat myself dry first, of course! This lotion smooths on easily and absorbs quickly. I dont find it greasy. I havent had a problem with my skin getting dried out during the day at all, so for me it works pretty well. The Cherry Blossom scent sticks around until I go to bed at night; Im impressed with the staying power of the fragrance, but again Id prefer a different scent. I wouldnt try to wear a separate fragrance with this type of body lotion, this works fine as a scent and I dont want to wear conflicting fragrances.
I paid just a dollar for the 2 ounce sample bottle of Pleasures Body Lotion, but the regular 8 ounce size retails for $9.00. Bath and Body Works frequently has sales on these products; most often Ive seen the buy three get one free sale (you can mix and match other products and scents from this line). Ive never seen Bath and Body Works products anywhere other than the brick and mortar stores, although Im sure you could buy them on Ebay as well. You can visit www.bathandbodyworks.com to see their products, but for some reason you cant shop through the site.
If you love one of the scents in the Pleasures line from Bath and Body Works, you can buy other products in the matching scent. This allows you to layer the products, adding a bit of intensity to the scent and making it last longer. Shower gel, body splash, bubble bath, and body cream are a few of the products available.
I like Bath and Body Works Pleasures Body Lotion, although I cant say that I love the Cherry Blossom scent. I enjoy the variety and overall find it to be a good quality lotion. I dont love it so much that I cant live without it, but Id certainly buy it again in a different scent. 4 stars.
