I have never had allergies. My husband has never had allergies. My daughter does not get allergies but she often gets a nasty head cold. Her poor little eyes would swell, her nose was dripping and her face red from the constant sneezing.
Being a new mom, I had no experience in over the counter medicine for a toddler. I tried other name brands and they did not do anything for her. She was still miserable. A friend of mine said try Benadryl. She recommended the dye free formula because her son had a reaction to the dye!
Benadryl worked. Her eyes became clear, her nose stopped dripping and her color returned to normal. There are added benefits to using Benadryl. It is safe. That was a number one concern for me. I hated the idea of medicating my child. Benadryl is harmless. As a matter of fact, it is often prescribed for pregnant women to help cure insomnia!
A couple of weeks ago I could not fall asleep. I took a dose of Benadryl and slept like a baby. A friend of mine has a daughter who gets itchy hives. She is allergic to an unknown substance. She gives her regular doses of Benandryl to relieve the itching.
Can you tell I am a Benadryl fan? The flavors are good too. Grape taste like candy and so does the bubble gum. My kids never have a problem taking Benadryl. If you have picky children this will be your answer.
As always though, do not give your children any medication unless you have consulted your doctor. Just because I like it does not mean your doctor will recommend it for you.
In my house, we have a constant supply of Benadryl on hand. Colds, allergies, insomnia, hives and even poison ivy have been relieved because of this product. In my opinion, this should be in everyones first aid kit.
