Freak369's Full Review: Bic BriteLiner Grip Highlighter Five-Color Set
There are some things that are considered indispensable when it comes to stocking a home office highlighters were never one of them for me until I came across the Bic Brite Liner Highlighters. Soon after I picked up the first pack they started to slowly disappear, no, the marker nymph wasnt paying me a visit but rather my boys discovered how well they wrote and started snaking them off my desk. Seeing as how they were using them for school work and projects I could hardly hold it against them that they were stealing my supplies so I figured Id adapt the old if you cant beat them join them attitude and made a mental note to pick up a few more packages when I hit the office supply store. As luck would have it, I stumbled upon this version of the basic Bic highlighter when it was on sale at Office Depot and decided to give them a try. Id already fallen in love with the basic brites and figured that the addition of a rubber comfort grip would only make thing better.
Bic Brite Liner Grip Highlighter
This five pack set features cool colors, a dual tipped tip and above average ink flow. The biggest complaint people have about highlighters is that they tend to bleed through paper or leave the area saturated with ink resulting in wavy sections on paper. I wont go so far as to say that this will never happen when you use this type of highlighter but Ive only had this happen a few times and usually only when I go over the same area several times. The chisel tip allows you to make fine or semi bold lines however if you are going over other colored inks there is a slight ink absorption so you will need to clean the tip or else risk ruining it. When I used these on photocopies I didnt experience any bleeding or any of the ink being pulled off the page but that isnt to say that it cant happen. If you are going to use these on photocopies, give it a trial run on a scrap sheet to see how the highlighter reacts to the photocopy.
The rubber comfort grip is a real godsend. I dont suffer from any type of wrist or hand ailments but do get cramps after writing for a long time. When I was using these to go over address lists and book lists for the boys I was pain free even after 40 pages of highlighting. My biggest concern about these was that the rubber grip would interfere with getting the cap on and off as well as locking the cap in to place when I was done using it. Im pretty happy to say that these click into place the same way as the others in the series but still suffer from the cheap clips on the caps that tend to break or snap when used. On the up side the colors of the highlighters are clearly displayed on the body and cap of the marker making it nearly impossible to grab the wrong one even if you place the wrong cap on the wrong marker the body of it is a clear indication of which color you are using or are about to use.
Speaking of color, the ones in this assortment are nice and a little different from the ones in the basic set. The colors include orange, yellow, blue, green and pink. Even though I am not a pink person I have to admit that the one in this set is pretty hot not that cute pink but a nice, hearty bold pink. The yellow is the standard neon / fluorescent color but its not so bright that you feel you are going blind after looking at it for ten minutes. The blue and green are average but the green is a weak green not exactly teal, not exactly light green just kind of blah. The orange is what really shocked me a nice strong orange that is a great color to highlight with, especially when you are blocking a large area of text. This isnt exactly a fluorescent but it certainly isnt wimpy sort of in the middle but one of my favorites!
The Bottom Line
If you have tried any of the other Bic highlighters and liked them then by all means, give these a try! The rubber comfort grip is a great perk and allows you to use it for extended periods of time without cramps or wrist aches. This is a great product for those who have trouble gripping stick style pens or markers and since the ink is non-toxic, this is 100% kid friendly well unless they are still in the I must color on anything that doesnt move stage. Purchasing these over the regular Big highlighters in this series will cost you about .70 cents more and have a suggested retail price of about $3.00 - $3.50 with the standard Big highlighters running anywhere from $2.50 - $3.50. Personally, the extra .50 to .70 cents is worth it to get the rubber comfort grip and assortment of colors.
