ladyhawk617's Full Review: Bissell 1715-G Spotlifter Bagless Handheld Vacuum
I admit it. I'm a slob. So is my daughter, my pets, my boyfriend, his kids, my family, my friends. I'm beginning to think that East Central Indiana is a breeding ground for people who spill, drop, squish, and knock over things. And then multiply this with my stupidity in having 3 cream colored pieces of furniture and white carpet.
This is the reason that the Bissell Spot Lifter was a good purchase for me.
I purchased it from UBID.com for $19. Then add the shipping charges which bring the grand total to $29.22. Still considerably cheaper than your Wal-mart price of $39.88 on sale.
It's lightweight, cordless, and you can store it ready to use. It's balanced very well so it is not top or bottom heavy. It's designed to handle quick clean of spills but I have also used it to clean a recurring spot on the carpet an hour before company comes.
It works on a rechargeable battery and you can mount it to the wall near an outlet to charge. It takes about 8 hours to fully charge so you better hope your accidents don't occur in greater frequency. The charge will last about 5 to 10 minutes before your sucking power dies out. This may not seem like a long time but I have never taken longer to clean up a spill.
There is a see through tank for the water and solution. I would say it holds about 1 cup of mixture. And another tank on the front to collect your dirt, juice, animal accidents etc... It does not heat your water. But, it only takes a minute to run hot tap water into the compartment. The directions say you can store it with the water and solution mixture for ease. I do not do this. Not because I think it will hurt anything but because of some advice from an experienced cleaning professional. He said to put the cleaning solution diluted in a spray bottle and then do a hot water clean. This prevents over soaping your carpet and leaving residue that will attract recurring spots.
It's easy to clean. After you are done, just flush the detachable compartments with hot water in the sink. You should do this before you put it back to charge because if there are any solid particles in the vacuum channel, they could dry and stick clogging your machine.
I like this product for a quick response to a full glass of juice spilt on the carpet, or a doggie mishap near the door. Just grab it turn it on and get that spot before it sets. Most carpet tacklers know that if you spill something with sugars on the carpet, the spot will reoccur because sugars bond with the carpet fibers. I like to get to it before it's too late.
It also comes with a few attachments which are almost to cheesy to mention. The scoop is a useless piece of plastic that my daughter plays with in the sandbox. The brush is tiny and narrow. It picks up stray fibers and hair but who cares when it is only 2 inches in diameter.
To sum it all up. The Spot Lifter is an alternative to cleaning spills with papertowels or kitchen rags. You can clean up your mess with no trace (especially if you blot the finished, damp area with a white absorbent paper towel). It would not be a good purchase for someone who is not prone to lots of spills or accidents. Or for someone who has all but given up on their carpet or furniture.
It's inexpensive, light weight, and easy to clean and maintain. It works for me but I could not recommend it as a useful product for everybody.
