stevesul's Full Review: Bissell Velocity Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
I've had all different brands of vacuums and Bissell always seems to give a good product at a fair price. Decided we needed a bagless vacuum since the main issue with bags is losing suction when the bags get full. First purchased the Bissell Revolution Lift Off but after assembling it, realized it was way too heavy for my wife. Disassembled it and purchased the Bissell Velocity. This is an ergonomic vacuum that is lighter and has a longer, more curved handle. The longer handle makes a big difference.
The vacuum took me about 10 minutes to assemble with just a phillips screwdriver. Basically screwing in the handle and attaching the hose and other accessories.
The vacuum is a purplish color with a a lot of semi clear plastics. The vacuum has a generous 35 foot cord which is fantastic but I wished it was retractable but that's a minor complaint. The dirt cup is a good size and of course clear. It has an easy lever that unlocks it to remove it. It's best to just clean it out after each use. The main filter is below is and that slides out easily. That can be washed. On the side of the vacuum is a large paper HEPA filter that needs replacement when its dirty. On top of the dirt cup is a meter to show air flow. It turns red while on to show a blockage or if the filter needs cleaning.
The hose is extra long and can be easily removed. The vacuum also includes the turbo brush (used for upholstery) that is good at getting dirt and dog hair up. There is the usual crevice tool, extension wand, and a small triangle fitting with bristles on it.
I haven't had to replace the belt yet so I can't comment on how easy that is. It does have a clear window so you can see the bristle roller from the top and check if it has buildup on it.
The vacuum has 7 levels from bare floor to plush carpet with an easy dial. The lever to swing the vacuum down from the upright position is easily engaged with your foot. The power switch is on the top front of the unit just below the handle
I was very impressed by how well this cleaned. I set it to level 3 and it found a lot of imbedded dirt and dog hair that our old (bag) vacuum had left the day before. Then I ran it again and pushed the level down to one notch above bare floor and it found almost the same amount. The third pass, the cup was clean. It just showed how much dirt and Golden Retriever hair was in the carpet fibers. The carpet was a lot softer without all that imbedded dirt. The bristles on the brush really beat into the fibers to loosen them up while the suction draws out the dirt.
Velocity is around 20 pounds which is 4-5 lbs lighter then the Revolution Liftoff. There is handle on the top to make it easy to carry upstairs (and makes the vacuum appear lighter then what it is when carrying).
It's important to keep the filter clean on this. As long as you do this, it has incredible suction. I can't comment on how it performs against a Dyson however, I think its crazy to spend $500 or more on a vacuum. I paid $111 for this after tax. Well worth it!
