Pros: Great concept
Cons: Terrible design, very messy, impractical for daily use, difficult to clean
The Bottom Line: Do not buy this product. It is a great concept with extremely poor implementation. It is hard to believe the B&D engineers actually tried it.

| vprnd's Full Review: Black & Decker SmartGrind Deluxe CBM7B Electric Bu... |
I am the VP of R&D for a consumer product company. I develop products for a living. This product is a great concept that was just absolutely botched in the design.
The idea of having a hopper full of beans with the ability to grind enough for a pot at a predetermined amount is cool. I read the reviews and decided the concept was worth the effort to buy one, test it, and return it if the negative reviews were true. After a single use, I spent 10-15 minutes cleaning up the counter and machine so it could be returned.
The product literally throws pieces of coffee beans out onto the counter while grinding. Next, when you remove the catch bin of ground coffee, grounds go everywhere. They fall into the tray that holds the bin and static electricity has them literally "jump" onto the machine itself as well as the outside of the bin.
The instructions say to use the specially supplied "tool" (handle of scoop) to clean out the grind chute EACH TIME BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE BIN. This is ridiculous. Also, the instructions actually warn you not to use the fine setting as it will plug the chute. Wow.
Again, the concept is excellent. The design could be changed to execute the concept with ease. If this was done, it could be a great product. In the meantime, the hassle is definitely not worth it.
Don't even think about buying it unless you don't mind returning things.
