Generations of Hispanic folks living in and around the Mission have seen their rent triple over the past few years. The Internet economy is bringing a new workforce to areas like the Mission where space is being converted from graffiti covered, concrete constructs to startup launching pads.
The urban digerati are hungry and demand good food. Blowfish delivers by providing a darkish, techno playing, hip, Japanese anime' covered joint to slug Asahi and enjoy very fresh sushi.
While they do not have Tiger Fugu (Blowfish) actually on the menu, they do serve the non-toxic North American relative of the puffer ($29). Don't waste your money unless you are really curious what it tastes like. Dig right into the elegantly served Spicy Tuna Roll, Super Dynamite Roll or Spider Monkey. The appetizers and rolls have some Cal-cuisine influence evident in the presentation and sauces.
The wait staff are friendly but there are usually about 3 fewer staffers than needed.
Expect to pay $40 per person for cocktails, appetizers and sushi. Hanging out with the tech-elite in this trendy sushi restaurant doesn't come cheap. But it is well worth it and one of those uniquely great places to take out-of-towners visiting SF.
