Pros: Light, easy to blend, full-coverage foundation
Cons: Expensive and broke me out
The Bottom Line: Even though it broke me out, I would still recommend it because I think it's a great foundation, if you can wear it.

| tldavis36's Full Review: Bobbi Brown Oil Free Even Finish Compact Foundatio... |
I bought this foundation initially to use as a concealer under my Studio Fix foundation powder. I had previously purchased Bobbi Brown's Blemish Cover Stick, but decided to try something else. The foundation is expensive, but sometimes the old adage is true: "you get what you pay for".
The Blemish Cover Stick retails for $20 for .08 oz., and the Oil-Free Even Finish Compact Foundation retails for $38.00 for 1 oz. I figured I'd get the most bang for my buck by getting the compact this time, and using it as a concealer instead. Also, the Blemish Cover Stick contains salicylic acid, and I figured I didn't need to use that in conjunction with my Retin-A Micro.
Once I'd made up my mind to give this a try, I ran out and bought the foundation and couldn't wait to use it. I was able to find a perfect color match, which is my biggest problem. My skin has yellow undertones, but my face also has some pinkness to it from the cystic acne I had, and also the lovely dark spots from old pimples. Therefore, I like to wear a yellow-based foundation/concealer. This was it!!!
The foundation comes in a flat, round black compact that is fairly large. I would say that it is probably 1/2 inch wider than my MAC Studio Fix compact and about the same thickness. This compact also has a ventilated compartment under the foundation, for the sponge.
The foundation is an oil-free, cream-to-powder formula that is rather dense. It's not as hard as MAC's Full Coverage Foundation, but not as soft as Prescriptives' Photochrome Foundation, if you've ever used either one of those. It's the happy medium between the two.
I tried applying it with my concealer brush the first time I used it, but I couldn't get the coverage the way I wanted it, so I started using my foundation brush instead. With the foundation brush I got a great, matte coverage. I would apply it to my T-zone and any other spots I had on my cheeks and chin. It was very easy to blend and was seamless once I applied it. It didn't feel heavy to me, but it is a full-coverage foundation. Once I'd concealed everything I applied a dusting of my Studio Fix and my face was flawless!
I only wore this three times, and each time I found a new group of pimples. The first time there was only one, and I'd only worn it for about 5 hours, on Saturday. I thought it might be a fluke and ignored it. Once I wore it to work all day, I had about 3 or 4 new pimples before the day was over. I could actually see the pimples coming as the day passed. I tried it one more day and the same thing happened, so I sadly decided to return it for a refund. I really hated to have to return it because I loved the color and simplicity of this foundation, whether I used it as a foundation or a concealer. But, I have enough spots and discoloration that I'm trying to correct so I figured I'd better not give it a longer test and run the risk of having even more things to conceal (boo-hoo!).
I'd read on another board that some acne-prone people had problems with this foundation causing breakouts and others did not. I was hoping I'd be one of the lucky ones that didn't have any problems with it, since it is oil-free, but evidently something in it didn't agree with my skin.
This foundation comes in 14 colors.
The ingredients are:
Ingredients: Octyl Palmitate, Silica, Phenyl Trimethicone, Cetyl Dimethicone, Tribehenin, Glycereth-8 Hydroxystearate, Octyldodecanol, Arachidyl Propionate, Ozokerite, Acrylates Copolymer, Squalane, Propylene Glycol Laurate, Dimethicone, Trihydroxystearin, Propylparaben, [+/-( May contain) Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI77499)].
The website says:
This portable oil-free compact foundation is great for normal to oily and oily skin types on the go. Easily blendable for long lasting true color with full coverage. Available in a full, 14 skin-tone-correct shade range that's precisely matched to all other Bobbi Brown foundations to ensure consistency between formulas.
I would still recommend this foundation, because I really liked it, even if I can't use it. Just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean that it won't work for someone else, and they may love it. So, I recommend it, with caution (if you have sensitive skin).
