Title: 97 Ways to Make a Baby Laugh
by Jack Moore
Bottom Line: Cute and funny. Useful for the creatively disinclined.
My wife got this one at a baby shower and we both chortled a whole bunch reading the 97 suggestions. There were some good ones in there, like number 45: "Bring Baby to the Laundromat with you and let him watch the tumbling clothes go around in the front-load dryer. Sound boring? Just think back to when you thought that tumbling clothes were quite a sight."
Unfortunately, at times the suggestions get a bit too elaborate. Barnes and Noble's (www.bn.com) reviewer enthused: "Mothers harried by the day-to-day details of caring for an infant will delight in these irreverently funny suggestions." Would that same harried mother have the energy to assemble four people, buy grass skirts and do a hula dance while singing "Here's to Baby" (#44)? Uh, probably not. The other problem is that it's generally not hard to make a baby laugh if you've got at least a few creative bones in your body. Our little one particularly enjoys being held upside-down, or simply having a parent wiggle their head from side to side. Still, if you can sidestep the more elaborate routines, and if you need some help in the creativity department, you'll probably enjoy. Oh yeah, one more thing: the book makes a great baby shower gift.
