shannons's Full Review: David Cassidy - Could It Be Forever?: My Story
It has been 37 years since David Cassidy first became a household name playing Keith Partridge in television's The Partridge Family. It seems like forever, doesn't it? Not since the Beatles and Elvis had young girls fallen so madly in love with a performer and no one since seems to have really come close to the level of adoration: he was a true teen heartthrob.
The only son of show-business parents Jack Cassidy and Evelyn Ward (and step-son of Shirley Jones who played his television mother Shirley Partridge on The Partridge Family), David Cassidy had the genes and the environment to grow up to be a performer. With his charisma, his unmistakable singing voice and his sex appeal, he became more than a performer, he was truly a star.
Could it be forever? My Story is David Cassidy's story. Although he is not a great writer (he admits he was not much of a student) we get his perspective on what it was like to be adored by millions of young girls and yet have no time for real relationships, what it is like to be at the top of the industry and then not be able to find a job, as well as the ups and downs and everyday life. He shares stories about his exhausting touring schedule and the events both on-stage and back-stage. He talks about his family, including his three marriages, his son and his daughter (although he does not go into detail about his daughter -- she just appears in the narrative).
He shares about his passion for horses and for performing and what he has learned about himself throughout the years. There are also quite a few photographs from his personal collection (although the book could only be improved by more photos).
In addition to his narrative, the story is supplemented by commentary from people close to him including family, friends, and professional colleagues. There is even a note at the end of the book from his son Beau. The extra commentaries add perspective to the narrative and helps to give more insight into the man.
I was one of the young girls who fell in love with David Cassidy when I was in grade school. I was fortunate enough to attend a concert when I was in the 1st or 2nd grade. After reading his story, it turns out I am probably still at least a little in love with David Cassidy. Maybe it is forever...
In 1970, after a brief acting career on Broadway and a few spots on various television shows, David Cassidy was catapulted to fame with the success of...More at Buy.com Marketplaces
