| travel2010's Full Review: Brookstown Inn |
On a recent trip to Old Salem in Winston Salem, NC I had the pleasure to stay at a historic inn called the Brookstown inn. It is located very close to the Old Salem visitor's center and historic district of Salem. Salem College is also near Old Salem.
Brookstown Inn offers free parking in its large parking lot right next to the hotel. The check in time is 3pm and check out at 12pm. There are two expensive resuarants on both sides of the hotel. The Meridian provides a different menu daily and the Cotton Mill. There is also a bakery within walking distance.
The service at the hotel was friendly and helpful. I was told about the wine and cheese offered in the evenings and the free breakfast in the mornings. I was also provided with many take out menus in case I didn't want to eat at the nearby restaurants.
The hotel has an elevator to the third floor. Those staying on the fourth floor must walk up the stairs from the third floor. I was pleasantly surprised with my room's historical furnishings to the Moravian times. My room had a dresser, armoire, desk and nightstands. The room had new carpeting and paint but had a rustic feel with the wood beam and boards.
The room was darker than I would have liked as the light sources were not enough for my liking. There was a candle shaped lightbulb chandelier. I liked that I could control the thermostat in my room and that extra blankets and pillows were provided. An iron and ironing board were tucked away in the armoire.
The hotel had a large bathroom with basic amenties as shampoo and lotion to a shower cap and sewing kit.
The room had a large sized tv with plenty of stations on cable including HBO and Showtime.
The historic nature of the hotel made it somewhat noisy. I could hear the floor boards squeak from people walking above and even conversations to sneezing in adjacent rooms.
The continental breakfast provided offered a variety of options from fresh fruit to cereal to bagels, danishes, donuts, granola bars, a few coffee selections as well as tea and cranberry, orange and apple juices. The seating area was large with white table cloths were cloth napkins.
When booking here check the "manger's special" option for the best deal.
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel from check in to check out. I would highly recommend the hotel to others.
