| birdie757's Full Review: Brother XL-2600 Mechanical Sewing Machine |
I purchased this machine in February of 2006 for $130. I had never sewn before but intended on sewing for my then 3 month old daughter. It was a great machine to start sewing on. The instructions that came with the machine were very clear. There were both written instructions and a visual start up guide to setting up the machine. The accessories that came with the machine are just about everything the average sewer would need. The only accessory I have purchased separately was a quilting foot less than $15) and extra bobbins. I sew nearly everyday. I have made tons of clothes for both my daughter and I. Buttons holes, buttons and zippers are a breeze even for first timers with this machine. I have made window treatments for our entire house. I have also made many rag quilts with this machine.
Unfortunately, today I just found out my machine is unrepairable. The Authorized Brother repairman said that this machine will only last for about a year of use for someone who sews on a regular basis. The bobbin run's point completely broke off and will cost more to repair than I paid for the machine at Walmart.
That said, I think that this machine was a great investment for me to learn how to sew on. I would highly recommend this for beginners and especially kids who want to learn.
