While taking a shower I wondered where my baby would be? We have been doing our best to be an attachment parenting family. Baby sleeps with us, is often in a sling, breastfeeding. All this skin contact. But at some point I needed space! Being a military wife I could not often count on other helping hands.
I had learned about the bumbo from mothers on ivillage. I thought them crazy at first for getting such a costly chair for baby. But I was pulled to it by how comfy it looked and how much independence it looked like it gave baby. Not to mention the safety issue.
So at about 3 months old, his god mother sent a little money, and this is what we picked out for him.
All of a sudden Mommy had no problem taking a shower without baby. He could be in his Bumbo on the floor in the bathroom while I showered. He could be in it on the kitchen floor watching mommy do some speed cleaning! Never in it for more then 30 minutes, it is rare that he fusses in it.
He started in it at 12lbs and it worked great. He is now 8 months and 18lbs and even with chubby legs, he fits. He does try and rock in it and get out when he drops a toy out of reach but as of yet, he can not get out, and it has not tipped over.
It could replace many other things like high chairs. But seeing as it is supposed to be used ONLY on the floor, we tend to use it just when we need some hands free time knowing he can not get into anything.
Light weight and small this is great for trips. At a messy friends house I knew we could put baby in it and he would not get into their stuff while we did a quick craft and coffee.
In short, this is an item I am please we got. It is safe and baby enjoys it. I would how ever advise anyone wanting one to try and get a used one as these clean up great and are solid so a used one should be as great as a new one but cheaper!
Update:
The price I paid was $40 at Baby'r'us last winter.
It comes in 5 colors right now: Blue, yellow, aqua, lime and lilac!
Hope this helps!
