The post-Bausch & Lomb ReNu Moistureloc days have been very hard on me. I felt that it was the absolute perfect contact lens solution, and then one day it was gone... I have tried many different solutions I tried Opti Free Replenish, but that simply did not compare. I tried other solutions that were also recalled. Eventually I stumbled on the CIBA Vision Clear Care solution. It was a very unique solution since it used a very interesting lens case to clean out the lenses. I purchased the solution from Costco, a twin-pack for around $13 or so. It was about the same price as other name-brand solutions and felt I had nothing to lose. I have been through a few bottles and have been satisfied with the solution. There is one flaw though that may impact your life though. Here is what you should know about the solution...
-PRICE-
*CIBA Vision Clear Care is comparably priced to other name-brand solutions from companies such as Alcon and Bausch & Lomb. At Costco, the twin-pack of CIBA Vision Clear Care was very comparably priced to Alcon's Opti Free Replenish solution. I have used both solutions, and can say that I am honestly more satisfied with the CIBA Vision Clear Care solution. If you do not have a tight budget in mind and therefore are not purchasing store-brand solutions (Which are still very good), you should look into CIBA Vision Clear Care. I have Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis and therefore require special care for my contacts. This soloution was definitely a great fit. I feel that in the end CIBA Vision Clear Care actually saves me money since I no longer need to use Alcon Supra Clens Daily Protein remover anymore. A small 0.1oz bottle is around $7.00! I used that with all previous solutions before the CIBA Vision Clear Care. Therefore, if you have sensitive eyes or an eye condition that required the use of a protein remover, then I would recommend looking at this solution. It may be a good switch that will save you money in the long-run.
-EASE OF USE-
*The CIBA Vision Clear Care contact lens solution uses a very unique type of lens case that sets it apart from any other type of solution. You have a special type of case where you need to place both of your contact lenses onto special neutralizing discs. You then splash the solution over the lenses to rinse them. In this part of the process, no rubbing is involved. Then you fill the case with the solution up to the fill line. Then watch the bubbles go to work! This can be a very entertaining process. Just leave your lenses in for six hours until the hydrogen peroxide bubbles are completely gone and the solution is neutralized. Then place the contacts in your eyes, being careful not to pour any solution into them directly. It is an easy process once you get the hang of using this new case. I appreciated this process since I still had to rub my contacts before despite using "no rub" solution. It also gives you something fun to do on a rainy day with the bubbles!
-COMFORT-
*Comfort has been improved significantly with my contact lenses thanks to the CIBA Vision Clear Care solution. I am able to wear my lenses for the alloted two-week lifespan without any discomfort. I feel that I may eventually start wearing lenses again for up to a month. The CIBA Vision Clear Care provides spectacular comfort levels without the use of the expensive daily-protein remover. I am currently using the solution with my Acuvue Oasys contact lenses. I am able to wear the lenses all-day for long extended period of time with absolutely no dryness or any discomfort. Yes you can find other solutions that will also provide excellent comfort and sanitation, but what really sets CIBA Vision Clear Care apart from other solutions, is the fact that no protein remover is required to reach such a level of comfort for me. If you are someone who wears lenses for a long period of time and perhaps have eye allergies or other sensitivities, you will appreciate the level of comfort that this solution provides.
-THE UGLY-
*There is one rather big negative aspect to the CIBA Vision Clear Care contact solution. Once you place them in the solution bath, you will NOT be able to wear the lenses for six hours! Therefore if you are heavily dependent on lenses like I am, you have to be positively sure that you will not need your lenses until the next day if you are using the solution. This is not the case with other solutions where you have the traditional contact lens cases and can remove the lenses as soon as you need to if you have to leave immediately. If you are a very spontaneous person, I would recommend having a spare pair of contact lenses soaking in your next-favorite contact solution. If you use them scarcely, then they will receive minimal wear & tear and would serve well for spontaneous insertions. Otherwise, be sure to have a pair of glasses ready if you just placed them to clean, and then have to go out again! This can interfere with many people, but the issue can be remedied by having a spare pair of lenses ready at moment's notice.
-THE VERDICT-
*For many people, having Bausch & Lomb's ReNu Moistureloc removed from the shelves was a traumatizing instance. It has been a long and difficult road finding a good replacement solution. The wounds have finally healed, and finally a great product has come about, the CIBA Vision Clear Care contact lens solution. The solution will provide excellent comfort levels for contacts, which is superior even without the use of expensive protein removers. The solution is great for people who have sensitive eyes or other conditions that make wearing contact lenses more difficult. It will be a dramatic change to make when first using the solution due to the unique lens case. But when you get the hang of it, it is an easy and even fun process! Just be aware that once your lenses go inside the case and the solution pours in, they will be locked for six hours. Therefore, if you have to reach for your contacts again quickly, you will be unable. Therefore, I would have a spare pair ready if needed. I found this to be the only downside to the solution, and otherwise it is a great product that can improve your daily contact lens comfort!
