Pros: Excellent service, and at least you can say you went there.
Cons: Ordinary food, poor lighting, hospital cafeteria crowd

Big disclaimer. I was there once -- about 4 years ago. However, 2 years ago, when I tried my hardest to convince my good friend not to go there on her birthday, she wouldn't listen and went. The next day, she told me I was right, and she was sorry she went.
I was extremely disappointed with everything about Cafe des Artistes, except for the service. That was exceptional.
The room is overly lit with bad lighting. I like to see my food, but not with cafeteria-style illumination. The room is cramped, and there is not enough room for all of the tables they force in there. The crowd is very, shall we say, mature, so if you're looking for a hip place (as opposed to a hip replacement), this place ain't it. The flowers that are so often cited in reviews, are not much more impressive than mums and shrubbery. The famed murals on the wall reminded me of wall paper. When I got a salad there, it was made with iceberg lettuce. Hey, for that kind of money, give me some baby lettuce greens already! The menu was on a cheap piece of paper, as though it was a take-out place. The entrees don't stand out in my mind, and I remember being incredibly disappointed, because I took a date there for a romantic evening and felt like I took him to eat at a hospital cafeteria.
In all fairness, the food wasn't terrible, it was just terribly ordinary. If I had paid maybe $15 for the dinner, I wouldn't have complained at all. But, for the price, it's a crime.
