It's cute, it's Calphalon!

I just received a Calphalon Professional Hard-Anodized whistle kettle last week. I received it from Calphalon as a replacement for my 14-year-old kettle that started to de-anodize on the inside. I returned the old kettle to Calphalon, as under the lifetime warranty they will gladly replace defective or worn merchandise if it has been used correctly. (And they do replace, cheerfully and promptly!)
The style I used to have, a taller and slanted more contemporary kettle, is no longer made so Calphalon let me choose from their other styles. The whistle kettle was the one I chose.
First, this little guy heats water! The hard-anodized material assures even heat distribution, allowing water to boil quickly and evenly. Water for tea and coffee, instant soups or cooking is available in just minutes.
The two-quart capacity gives you a lot of hot water. My former kettle was larger, but I never used all of the water, and when it was full it was pretty heavy to lift. This kettle's size allows it to provide plenty of water, yet it is easy to lift and pour when full. Also, the design of it is well balanced, making pouring easier, too.
The coated handle stays cool so you don't burn your hand while handling a hot kettle. The handle is also far enough away from the spout that the steam doesn't rise up to burn.
Another word on the spout: it has a metal end piece that has two holes in it for steam release. It also has two black interlocking C's that function as a stay-cool grip to remove the spout. The entire metal spout cover comes off so that you can pour the water easily. The metal spout enables the kettle to "whistle." I get a kick out of a whistling kettle, plus it alerts me that I have water boiling on the stove, but if the whistle isn't your thing, just take the spout off.
The only drawback to this kettle, and it is a very small drawback in my opinion, is that the lid fits tightly and does not come off easily. It has a tight seal, which is necessary to force steam out of the metal spout to make the whistle. This isn't really a drawback to me, as you can fill the kettle directly by using the spout. Calphalon explains all of this in their care brochure.
The interior of this kettle is smoothed, anodized aluminum and wipes clean, although as it is made to heat water it really doesn't get dirty. I have soft water and have no water residue or mineral build up in my kettle, and it wasn't a problem in my other Calphalon kettle either.
This product, which retails for about fifty dollars, is a sturdy, attractive and highly functional kettle which should serve a kitchen well for years to come. It is priced less than other "designer" kettles, such as Alessi models, and does a beautiful job heating. I highly recommend this kettle.
And as I get older, I appreciate a little whistle when I walk by...even if it does come from a kettle.
