bliu21's Full Review: Casio Exilim EX-Z750 Digital Camera
The purchase of the EX-Z750 was one of the best I have ever made. After previously having the Canon Powershot S40, a camera I was very much satisfied with other than its large profile, I was in the market for something that would be more portable, but with equal picture quality at a significant increase in MP sensor. Also, it had to have a viewfinder, no matter how small. After reading reviews here, DP review and Cnet, it came down to the Canon SD 400/500 and this Casio. Went to check it out in person at the local electronic store for comparison. User reviews for both were pretty good- dpreview gave what seemed like a slight edge to the z750. After downloading some of the actual photos available and seeing them displayed at the review site, I leaned toward the Casio. The price was also a factor: most of the sites selling the two 7 MP cameras had a difference of at least $75 in favor of the Casio. With the money saved, I bought myself a 1 GB high speed SD card.
The first thing you notice out of the box is the brushed aluminum finish. Seems pretty durable. Flipping it over reveals the large viewscreen. A screen protector is a must for this camera if you want it to last. The buttons are all in logical positions, allowing easy access. The size of the camera is small enough for a shirt pocket without a noticeable bulge, yet hefty enough in your hand for a decent shot.
Now for picture quality. Like many of the other reviews, the Bestshot feature is a true gem. Didn't have that feature in my previous Canon and now use it constantly. Many have complained about the oversaturation seen in many of the pictures; as this camera has tons of adjustable manual features, it has not been a problem. You can change the saturation setting to -1 or -2. Outdoor shots are absolutely amazing. The details are captured brilliantly. To save memory, I take most of the photos in 5 MP mode (I don't usually enlarge my photos). Indoor shots are good. The flash is a bit underpowered, a problem noted before- again, changing the manual flash setting helps a little. Having so many manual tweaks that is not available on the Canon model definitely gives the Casio a big edge. Battery life is amazing- I got more than 275 shots on just one charge.
Movies are VGA quality and is an additional plus that this camera has to offer. Audio quality on the movies are moderately good. The quality is tons better than the previous generation. One can capture video continuously, only limited by the memory.
This was a great purchase. I am very happy with my decision.
