| rodeo7's Full Review: Chap Stick Lip Moisturizer |
I love ChapStick, and I especially happen to be an avid user of this specific type, called LipMoisturizer. Being a snowboarder, mountain biker and average person who gets dry, chapped lips, I always have a stick of ChapStick in my pocket. In fact, I could use some right now… <applies some to lips>.
LipMoisturizer is my favorite of all the types of ChapStick because, it moistens my dry lips the best. It is also very good at protecting my lips from getting chapped when snowboarding down the mountain or riding my bike in the fall or winter. Cold wind blowing into my face dries out my lips very quickly if I forget to apply my ChapStick. The Vitamin E and Aloe Vera sooth chapped lips and help promote healing.
Another reason I love LipMoisturizer so much is due to the SPF 15 rating. There is probably slightly more chance for skiers and snowboarders to get sunburned in the winter than in the summer because people don’t realize that they need to wear sunscreen even if it is freezing outside. UV rays are still hitting us pretty hard in the middle of winter and worse yet, they bounce off the snow and come back up, hitting us in the face. An SPF 15 is pretty sufficient and is definitely better than nothing to protect my lips from getting burned.
And lastly, I like the taste! LipMoisturizer comes in stick and tube form. The stick comes in Regular flavor and Vanilla Mint Flavor. The tube only comes in Regular flavor. I opt for the Vanilla Mint. I personally like the taste and it isn’t so overpowering that it’s gross. Regular is supposed to be tasteless, but I find that it has a hint of vanilla to it. I also choose the stick over the tube simply because Vanilla Mint doesn’t come in tube form.
There are only two problems I have with ChapStick. Neither of these are the product’s fault, but I thought I would mention them. The first is that since I opt for stick form, and the large majority of ChapStick products come in stick form, the turning mechanism which slides the stick up (like lipstick) tend to turn while in my pocket, thus the ChapStick inside the plastic casing gets squashed up into the cap. The other problem is that since they are so small, and I use them so often, I’m always misplacing my stick of ChapStick. It’s a good thing they are so inexpensive. I am able to have a stash of two to three as back up incase I ever lose the one that is supposed to be in my pocket.
One is not limited to LipMoisturizer. ChapStick has a very large line of products, which include Regular, Cheery, Ultra SPF 30, Medicated, and many Flava-Craze flavors like Blue Crazeberry. During the summer months, I switch to the Sun protection line, which the Ultra SPF 30 is found. My lips don’t dry out so much in the summer, so I do not need the high moisturizing quality found in LipMoisturizer. I do however need a higher sun block protection, which is found in Ultra SPF 30. Another thing to note is that ChapStick has one type of product specifically for healing chapped lips called Medicated. Camphor, Menthol, Phenol and Aloe Vera work together to relieve pain and heal chapped lips <wow, organic chemistry classes actually came in handy!>
In comparison to other brands, I find that all the little aspects of ChapStick LipMoisturizer add up perfectly, making it my lip balm of choice. Once, I tried a brand that was geared towards “extreme conditions” having an SPF rating of 45 and was supposed to be very moisturizing. I found that it did not glide on as smoothly as ChapStick, and if you put on too much, it would cake up and feel gross on my lips.
I would recommend ChapStick in general, and ChapStick LipMoisturizer to everyone. It’s very inexpensive so if you don’t like it, it wasn’t that much money down the drain. A stick usually lasts me a month or more, assuming I haven’t lost it or it didn’t get squashed up into the cap.
Who would have guessed I could have written that much on ChapStick? LOL
