I am a big-time lip balm fanatic. At last count, I have 42 sticks of balm at home. I have every flavor imaginable; my collection represents many different brands, from Blistex to Avon. I have my favorites and those I rarely use. This balm, ChapStick All Natural, has quickly made its way to the top of my Lip-O-Meter. It has found a place in my purse next to the Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment.
Whats In It?
ChapStick All Natural contains natural Vitamin E, Beeswax, Mango Butter, and Shea Butter. The official ingredient list is as follows:
Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Jojoba Esters, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Beeswax, Natural Flavors, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Extract, Tocopherol.
Packaging and Contents
I was waiting in line at the local fabric store when I found this near the checkout (if you can believe it). I had seen the product before but I didnt have it in my collection so I decided to try it. The tube of CAN was sitting out in a display box when I found it, but you can also buy the tubes in the common ChapStick packaging, the lower blister pack with the cardboard tongue. Both the tube and the packaging are a lovely shade of creamy earthy beige (the tube itself is pearlescent) with the black ChapStick logo, and the product name in bright green. There is also a tiny water droplet pictured, no doubt an indication of the moisture content. In tiny letters on the very bottom of the packaging: Deep conditioning & hydrating formula to moisturize & protect your lips. The tube is 2 and 1/2 inches long, and 5/8 of an inch wide. It contains .15 oz of balm. The cap is pearlescent like the tube and semi-transparent. The balm is the same creamy beige as the tube. It has a light scent, like mango and vanilla with just a hint of mint. Its a very pleasant scent and never overpowering. The flavor is also like mango and vanilla, and is very, very faint.
The Experience
ChapStick has been one of my favorite brands for a long time, mostly because I find the consistency of their balms to be perfect for my lips. They are not runny, never greasy or too waxy, and moisten my lips well. CAN is no exception. But I have noticed a slight difference in this balm when I compare it to the others that ChapStick produces. Sometimes their balms take a moment to warm on my lips before they go on smoothly, but not this one. The CAN glides on perfectly and feels wonderfully smooth when I run my lips together. The moisture lasts for a long time, even when the balm has completely absorbed into my lips. I love it.
One of the minor complaints Ive read about this product is the lack of SPF protection. I am probably way off the mark, but I can only imagine one reason for this: SPF isnt
..well, natural as far as I know. But I dont care. I am not in the sun that often anyway. When I am, I have a lip balm with SPF that I use anyway.
Product Claims
As always, my comments are in italics. These claims are from the ChapStick website.
- Keeps lips moisturized and healthy (You bet your sweet life. My lips feel smooth, healthy, and moisturized when I use this product.)
- Helps heal and prevent dry chapped lips (I dont have chapped lips often so I am not sure if the product really heals, but I havent had a case of chapped lips at all since Ive been using this product.)
-This product is not tested on animals (And who doesnt love that??)
Finis
ChapStick All Natural has quickly become one of my favorite balms. At a great price (I paid $1.49 for it) and considering all that it does, Id say I came out a real winner with this purchase. That doesnt mean Ill quit buying balms. Every collector has to add a new item to their collection sooner or later. But itll take a very special balm to dethrone the CAN. I highly recommend it, even if youre not a lip balm fanatic like me.
