| Joti's Full Review: Chia Pet |
On a recent trip to San Diego from England to see my friend over the Christmas period, I enquired as to the prolific advertising for "Chia Head" and so on (even the new Looney Tunes range!!!). He explained that there were these terracotta shapes in which you grow cress....
Now you know how sometimes, something is so bad that you love it? I became obsessed with going back to England with a Chia Pet of some description! Trawling all the stores, I was only to return disappointed, being informed that the existing stock was gone.
On my last day I found some!!! I purchased Chia Guy and Chia Tweety for my ex-girlfriend.
I love the concept of a present that people buy someone they don't really like, or can't be bothered to get a thoughtful present for: "I know, I'll get one of those cress head things!!!" The marketing is fantastic and downright cheeky - I LOVE IT! Even down to the packaging that says the heads/pets are crafted by techniques borrowed from ancient Indians from Mexico (who cares?)
Even if you receive one and don't like it, you can bet you'll have a go at growing it anyway!!!
Sadly my Chia guy didn't exactly flourish, but then again our weather here in England isn't exactly fantastic.
I take my hat off to the guy who's some millionaire because of this concept. Chia... only in America.
