bigskeptic's Full Review: Chuckit Flying Squirrel Small

Chloe, our hound dog, loves to chase squirrels. Poor baby gets so frustrated when they run up a tree and taunt her. So, a few years ago, I bought her first Chuckit Flying Squirrel. Now she can chase and catch Squirrels to her hearts content - and I don't have to worry about PETA coming after me. What Is It? The Chuckit Flying Squirrel is a frisbee-type flyer toy made of fabric (nylon I guess) and rubber "paws". The rubber paws are actually glow-in-the dark. There is also some flexible plastic tubing on the sides (encased in the fabric) to shape the toy. This toy also floats.
I’ve see Chuckit Flying Squirrel at many pet retailers as well as online. It is available in Small (9"x9"), Medium (10"x10") and Large (11"x11"). According to the Chuckit web site, there are also three color combo choices: Blue and Orange ; Blue and Green (All sizes), Camo and Orange (large size only). I have personally only ever seen the Blue and Orange sold. Depending on size , and where you buy, prices range from $8-$14.
My Experience Chloe had no interest in trying to catch a hard frisbee in her mouth, let alone pick it up and bring it to me. And soft flyers were ok, but they didn't go far. So I'd have to do a LOT of throwing to get her good exercise.
Chuckit Flying Squirrel is kindof the best of both worlds. It is soft and flexible enough for Chloe to retrieve, yet sturdy enough to fly across our big yard.
The construction is strong enough to stand up to some strong tugging and "killer" head shakes. However Chuckit Flying Squirrel is DEFINITELY NOT a chew toy. Chloe chewed apart her first Squirrel within 5 minutes of being left alone with it. And while it is weather-resistant, leaving it out in the yard too long definitely will take it's toll.
Another word of warning, Chuckit Flying Squirrel CAN actually be thrown TOO FAR. We have quite a few lost Squirrels in the woods behind our fence thanks to He-Man Hubby and over-zealous kiddos.
