Pros: Scent, cool bottle design, makes hair silky and soft, adds some volume.
Cons: Not for those who have severely dry scalp
The Bottom Line: If you don't want to feel like you have a haystack on your head and you want something that doesn't have that medicine smell, go for it. You'll love it.

What prompted me to begin using this shampoo?
I went to the salon to get a haircut to find out there's some dry hair and scalp issues going on. The way the beautician explained it to me is that if I have gas heat, it can eventually cause the 'dry' issues even though I've never had the problems in the past. I guess it just eventually caught up with me. Well, she gave me an invigorating scalp treatment that was worth the $18 I paid for and said I could have it done every 6 weeks. Well, I needed an at home fix that wasn't going to cost me $18 every six weeks, so I decided to try something from the wonderful shelves of my local Wal-mart
The trip to the supermarket
I was amazed at how hard it was to find something at Wal-mart that treats dry hair and scalp. Yes, I could've bought one of the scalp treatment shampoos like Denorex or Head and Shoulders, but I wanted something that smelled nice and girly that didn't have that Selenium Sulfide smell (there's just something distinct about it). That's when something interesting caught my eye. I saw the bluish green bottle that said Clairol Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Shampoo It was even talking about dry fields and things like that on the back of the bottle. I thought to myself, "wow, if this will hydrate a dry field, it will certainly hydrate the dry gas heat induced field on my head." So I bought it.
The Experience
I was excited to use it because of its exotic scent and really cool bottle, but I couldn't use it until the day after my scalp treatment, so I was overcome by shampoo anxiety. I'm never excited over something that miniscule, but I'm a results-oriented person. I'm the type who likes to see if things really work the way they are said to work.
To my disappointment,I wasn't moaning and screaming 'Yes! Yes!' or anything like that in the shower. I think something in the area of, 'cool' escaped from my mouth because it smelled really good and the bottle looked just as good wet as it did dry. It rinsed out well and didn't burn that bad when I decided it would be a good idea to shampoo my right eye (no dry fields in there).
The Results
So, I dried my hair and I inspected it like I was looking for head lice or something (maybe I was subconsciously). We (me, myself, and I) had some flakes going on, but my hair was silky. It wasn't flying every which way and it felt really soft. It didn't feel like a bail of hay could be produced from it or anything like that, so I have to give that much to the Clairol people. I didn't look like a fuzzball nor did I look like I belonged with the Tin man and the Cowardly Lion. It really did to my hair what the bottle said it would do, but I still had one problem: What about that scalp?
So what about the scalp?
I figured I'd try something for the sake of my own version of science. The scalp was doing better from what I could see, but I needed to eliminate the flakes completely. Having dark hair does not make it easy for a girl with gas heat in her home. I decided to buy one of the dandruff shampoos and use it in addition to my wonderful smelling hydrating shampoo. You know what? I get better results than I ever have with any one shampoo. I found my combo. I wish I didn't have to use two shampoos, but the results rock my socks and that's worth it.
The Selsun blue gets rid of my dry scalp, but I can't use it by itself. It makes my hair flat. Throw in my Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Shampoo and my hair isn't flat. It's soft and has just the right volume without flying around and it is very manageable. It was manageable without the Selsun blue, but it was those danged flakes that I no longer have.
I think the reason why Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Shampoo didn't do much for the dry scalp is because of the extent I was dry, but it did help some. It just needed a little help from its good friend Selsun Blue. I do love the shampoo though and I do recommend it. It smells like you're on a beach in Haiti and makes your hair feel like you just came back from the salon.
