| michelle7898's Full Review: Clifford Grows Up Paperback Book |
I purchased the Clifford Grows Up book a few weeks ago for my daughter who will be seven next week. She has many other Clifford books already and loves them all. We do have a habit of reading Clifford based books at bed time for my youngest two children. They both seem to love it a lot. This book was no different. They adored it.
Where to buy it and what I paid:
I found the Clifford Grows Up paper back book in one of the book order forms that got sent home with my daughter through school. It was a Scolastic book order form. The Clifford Grows Up paper back book was on sale from $4.00 at the regular price to only $2.00 which is what I had paid for it. The price was more than fair. I was happy to pay it. I enjoyed Clifford as a child and it is very nice to see that my daughter now likes these books as well.
Details and facts:
With the Clifford Grows Up paper back book you get a paper back book that contains many double sided pages full of pictures that are bold and vibrant. I did notice that a few of these pictures are duplicates from other books. But considering the story behind this book, it makes a lot of sense to me that they chose to do that.
The words are printed big and bold. This is a level one reading book according to Scholastic standards of reading. My daughter is in the first grade and this is right on her level. This book is written in English and is written by Norman Bridwell. It was published by Perfection Leaning in 1999. So this is not as old as many of the other Clifford stories out there.
Story:
The story is pretty basic. It seems as if Emily Elizabeth is telling us the story of how Clifford grew up. She explains about how when he was little his bowl was so big he fell in, there is a picture to show this. Then the story goes on to talk about the fun things she did with Clifford and how she took care of him when he was growing up.
We go on to read about how Clifford grew and grew so much with all the love he was given that the family had to move out of the city to Bridwell Island. This Island is named after the author obviously! We see in the pictures that Clifford grows from one scene to the next. The pictures stand out. They are certainly eye catching. The story is sweet.
Our experience and my recommendation:
The Clifford Grows Up paper back book has become one of my daughter's favorite books. She too likes that she sees the pictures that were in some of the earlier books. My daughter is able to fully read the book start to finish which I really like. It certainly encourages her to read more.
I would say that so far in just the past few weeks we have read the Clifford Grows Up paper back book together at least 30-35 times or more. My son who is two enjoys hearing it read to him as well so it has gotten even more use then I had thought that it would. My daughter loves the whole story but her favorite part is watching near the end from picture to picture how big Clifford had gotten since he was a puppy.
This book is great for kids. It certainly will help interest them in reading, be fun to read, be an enjoyable story and even fuel the imagination a bit. My daughter asked me if a dog could really get that big if you loved him like Emily loved Clifford. That made me smile. My kids always say things that make me smile!
Any how this would be a great gift to give a child, or just a fun book to read at bed time. It is a calm, sweet and loving story. Not some thing that will put too many thoughts or gear them up toward bed time. I highly recommend the Clifford Grows Up paper back book.
