Pros: Good Ear Speaker/Microphone for Cell Phone Use, Cheap Price.
Cons: Radio Reception is VERY Bad, and It Uses Expensive Batteries
The Bottom Line: The price is right, the ear piece is comfortable, and the earphone sound quality is good, but DO NOT buy this for the FM radio function alone!

| voltasonic's Full Review: Coby Cv-Fm70 Ear/Mirophone W/ Fm Scanner Radio |
I purchased this earphone / microphone radio as a primarily as a hands free unit for my cell phone. It will fit into a standard mini RCA plug type cell phone earphone jack, which prevalent on a majority of cell phones out there today.
I paid $19.99 for it at Fry's, but have since seen it on the K-Mart website for $12. So much for that...
The reason this one appealed to me was that when I stumbled upon it, it was priced lower than the hands free earpiece/microphone at store where I got my new cell phone, and it has a tiny little radio on the cord which I knew I would use.
I always carry a little pocket radio about the size of a deck of cards as many times I am driving in the car and have to get out to go to the supermarket, fill the gas tank, etc, and because I listen to talk radio and want to be able to continue to follow the topic, a little pocket radio comes in handy.
Well, first the bad news. The radio SUCKS!!!! Having had many pocket radios, walkmans, home stereo equipment, etc., I have never owned a radio that could not lock onto a strong station. It is so maddening to hear someone on the radio talking about something interesting, then to hear 15 seconds of static, then more talk about a new subject that it takes a few moments to catch up with, then more static. I have tried several stations in several locations in Los Angeles, and the radio is just plain horrible and unusable.
The other bad news is that the radio takes 2 $3-4 dollar tiny camera batteries and which are worth as much as the radio. The OFF switch on my unit somehow got bumped ON in my car or bag and it cost me almost $8 to replace the batteries in a $20 unit.
The theoretical good news about having separate batteries for this unit is that the radio can be used without drawing power from a cell phone's battery, but if your radio is as unusable as this one, it won't be an issue.
The real good news, as already mentioned above is that this unit was a good value, it has a clear earphone, and the earbud fits fine and is reasonably comfortable. Callers on the other end of conversations have told me that I sound clear (when I asked them), so as a hands free device, this unit does the job fine.
I would buy this item again as I needed it for the hands free feature for my cell phone in the first place. It works fine for that, and the price was good, so I am recommending it. But I will stress again that the radio is a piece of garbage.
