Pros: Lollipops and coloring books
Cons: They don't know what they are doing!
The Bottom Line: Not a good choice if you need things to go smoothly and you don't like to spend days in the bank taking care of problems.

| rachelhyman's Full Review: Commerce Bank (NY-NJ-PA-DE) |
I was looking around for a new bank since my bank was beginning to get expensive with fees. Last month I paid about $45 for falling below the minimum balance requirement.
I found a Commerce Bank in my town and figured I would give them a try. That lasted less than a week.
I opened a checking and savings account. The checking account was free for the first year and only required a $100 balance thereafter. I really don't know what the minimum balance was in the checking account.
They entertained my kids while I opened the accounts with lollipops and coloring books.
Let me also add that I try to avoid having to go into the bank as much as possible and with my current banks (Chase) I haven't had to in a really long time.
Problem 1: Online Banking
When I opened the accounts the representative asked me if I was interested in online banking. I said yes as I love using this now with Chase. She had a form that I had to sign to enroll and told me that in a few days I could log-in and access my accounts. Wrong. About 2 days later I tried to log-in and spoke to a phone representative that told me that I had to apply online and that it would take another few days to be activated. So that is the first display of incompetence.
Problem 2: Overdraft
I applied for a small overdraft which I already have at Chase. I was told that in about 2 days I should have an answer. I went into the branch a couple days later and a customer service rep opened up a 3-ring binder and told me we were declined. I was in shock. The rep eluded to bad credit. I immediately went home and paid for a credit report. Our credit is EXCELLENT and our rating is much higher than they require. I called them and told them this and they said 'Oh, we made a mistake and you were actually approved.' How can you do that to people???
I then spend the next day trying to close the overdraft. And suddenly the branch was very busy and could not take my calls (despite the fact that every time I was there they seemed to be sitting around doing nothing).
So I closed all of my accounts with them and will not consider banking there again. They really don't seem to be an experienced bank. I am trying a different bank now and the service is much more personalized and professional. I have not closed any accounts at Chase yet since I am not yet comfortable elsewhere.
