I received this laptop from my school about two months ago. So far
I (and fellow students) have noticed some interesting things about it:
For one, the product itself is made of very cheap plastic (including the
keyboard). The outside casing of the display is very delicate and does
not protect the display at all! Although I am very careful with the
laptop I have noticed two very prominent (and very permanent!) holes on
the display resulting from pressure applied while the laptop was closed.
Even the slightest pressure pushes the display onto the two corners of
the speaker area (by the spacebar) and may result in permanent damage.
Another not so great thing I noticed about the product is its
choppiness despite its 650 MHz, even running non-RAM-intensive
applications.
One thing that I loved about this laptop was its pretty loud speakers.
Also, at least the off switch isn't software controlled, thus allowing me
to reboot the system (without taking the battery out) during the
occasional crash.
Overall, I must say that the shoddiness of this product is very
subtle...although I am reminded of it every time I use this low-end
piece of equipment. There are no major drawbacks that I found (except the
ones listed above), but the product does lack the quality I found in
other brands (esp. Gateway). If you had experienced the quality of other
brands then I suggest you don't buy this system...you will miss it.
Otherwise I guess this product is suitable for students, who will
probably end up playing (choppy) games anyhow. Also, this product is fine
for general tasks such as web browsing and watching DVD's. We had no
problems with any other hardware components of this laptop. But if you
plan to use this laptop everyday for long periods of time, especially in
the workplace...reread the last paragraph.
