Yzerman's Full Review: Conair Perfect for Permed or Naturally Wavy Hair M...
I have naturally curly hair, which is also very fine in texture. I have never been able to get up and go like some of my friends, taking only 10 or 15 minutes in the morning to get ready. NO, I have to wash and condition my hair every morning just to be able to get a comb through it. Depending on my mood (and time!) each morning, sometimes I leave my hair curly, but most of the time I style it. Either way, I have to blow dry it before I leave the house.
For those of you with natural curl, you already know that you can not use a regular blow dryer because you will end up with a wig of frizz on your head. That is where a diffuser comes in. A diffuser does just what the word implies, it diffuses the air coming out so that the heat reaches the hair, but there isnt a whirlwind of air blowing your hair all over your head, separating the curls and creating frizz. It does take a little longer to dry hair using a diffuser because you dont have the direct blast of hot air to the hair, but there is also no frizz.
Several manufacturers make a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment. Conair and Vidal Sassoon are two that I know of that sell a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment. I currently have a Conair, but have had different brands in the past. The problem that I have had is that the diffuser attachments that actually come with blow dryers are generally cheaply made. They slide on the end of the barrel of the blow dryer and only slide back about one-half and inch. Once the blow dryer has been on for a couple of minutes, the barrel of the blower dryer and the diffuser get hot, then the plastic diffuser expands and it slides off the blow dryer. It can get very frustrating after the 4th or 5th time it falls off and flies across the bathroom (always keep the toilet lid down while using a diffuser!).
Recently, I got my hair cut and noticed that the stylist had a different kind of diffuser on her blow dryer. It was larger, looked professionally made, and more efficient. I asked her if she had to purchase it at a beauty supply store, and she said no, that it could be purchased at most stores that sell blow dryers. So, I went shopping and found what I was looking for at Target: the Conair Euro Style Diffuser.
The Conair Euro Style Diffuser looks very similar to the diffuser that came with my Conair blow dryer, except it is much larger and better quality. The surface area (where the air comes out) is almost twice as large as the one I had. It is also made of a much sturdier plastic. The most useful feature for me, however, is the way it fits on the barrel of my blow dryer. It slips over the end of the barrel just like all other diffusers, but the inside part (the part that slides onto the blow dryer) is longer and has plastic prongs that slightly move to allow it to slide onto the blow dryer, but also hold it in place. The absolute best part, however, is that it has three rubber grips inside that prevent the diffuser from sliding off!It fits very tightly and I actually had to give it a firm push to slide it on.
The Conair Euro Style Diffuser has the usual styling fingers that are typical of many diffusers. Fingers are plastic prongs on the surface of the diffuser that you can use to lift the hair, whether to make hair look fuller or to gently dry the hair on the bottom layers. This particular diffuser will also fit most regular blow dryers, not just Conair. I tested it on my daughters blow dryer, which is a Vidal Sassoon, and it fit perfectly.
I have been using my new Conair Euro Style Diffuser for about a month now and I have absolutely no complaints. The diffuser stays on the blow dryer where it belongs; no more chasing a diffuser across the bathroom floor, or fishing it out of the toilet! In addition, the surface area of this one is bigger, which has cut down my blow drying time, while leaving my curls in place without the frizz. It is made of a very durable plastic.
I found this diffuser at Target in the same isle with the blow dryers. It cost $7.99 and included a free Velvet Touch Styling Brush, which was an extra treat. My diffuser is black to match my blow dryer, but it also comes in white.
