| vemartin's Full Review: Coolermaster Notepal Infinite |
I have owned my current laptop computer, an HP Pavilion dv9000 for almost three years now, and that for me is a record. With our budget tight I am determined to hold onto the laptop for another two years, but lately the silver 17” machine had been running hot and the lone fan in the bottom of the unit was beginning to work overtime. This is right about the time I plugged an extra appliance into one of the USB ports; more power consumption, more heat, much higher fan noise.
Both my wife and I grew tired of the resulting (increased) fan noise, so after a little research I decided to purchase the Notepal Infinite Notebook Cooler by Cooler Master. The Notepal Infinite is a lightweight, plastic and aluminum cooling pad for your notebook computer that claims to cool the unit up to 17 degrees. The computer sits on top of the Notepal Infinite whose fan cools the notebook, and in so doing rid the room, the house, of that computer fan noise. Yeah!
As I mentioned, well just one paragraph up, the Notepal Infinite is constructed mostly from plastic except for the mental mesh top upon which the notebook rests. There is nothing to put together, the Notepal Infinite comes fully constructed and ready to use. The Notepal Infinite does not use an external power source but is powered by the notebook’s USB port and ships with a 3 ft. cable that plugs into the back of the unit. Also inside the box is a user guide, which includes basic instructions and warranty information, in well, 17 languages.
Use
The Notepal Infinite is angled, a slight 15 degree or so that makes for the (almost) perfect laptop screen viewing. The Notepal Infinite works by sucking cool air in through the back of the unit, passing it over a fan inside the unit and then blowing the cool air onto the bottom of the laptop. The cool air is well distributed throughout the entire pad and work quite well to cool my laptop. The fan speeds are: Low~1000rpm, Midrange~1500rpm, and High~2000rpm.
The mesh screen of the Notepal Infinite is fitted with small rubber strips (feet) that firmly grip the laptop and keep it from sliding. On the back of the unit you will find a three position fan switch as well as the power button and two USB ports; one mini, one full sized. I plugged my TomTom into the port.
Conclusion
The Cool Master Notepal Infinite Notebook Cooler can be had in a myriad of attractive colors and fits my 17” screen HP Pavilion dv9000 with a problem. So far I love the unit; it keeps my laptop cool without consuming additional power, is attractive, and just works well without a lot of noise. In other words the darned thing is quiet! Buy it, use it, that is if you need a cool laptop.
