| johndeere931's Full Review: Craftsman 14 Cu. Ft., 42" High-Speed Lawn Sweeper ... |
I have had this lawn sweep for one year.I use it mostly to pickup grass clippings during the fast growing season. However it is also handy for spring clean up.I was surprised to see it will even pickup small tree sticks limbs that fall over the winter.
The nice thing about this model is.It is a high speed gear ratio type.Meaning the brushes turn faster at a slow travel speed. It is a 8:1 gear ratio most others are a 4:1.What this means is you can pull it slower but the brushes still turn fast enough to toss the clippings into the basket. This is very nice when going around obstacles where you must slow down. Also on rough lawns it will do a nicer job and will not bounce around because of travel speed being so high. Also when you do pull it at a faster speed it will get the clippings to the back of the hopper rather then bunching up at the front.
It is well made and is heavier built in the hitch then many other brands.Storage is an issue if you do not take the hopper basket off. However you can pull two pins and remove the hopper. Then it folds up and will hang on the wall. You can also store the sweeper in a small space.Just place the hitch standing up again a wall. This way it takes up very little space and can be set up for use easily and quickly.
I use to hate yard cleanup. But not anymore it is actually fun to drive around pulling the sweeper and cleaning the lawn. Also if you set the brush height correctly you can stripe your lawn like a baseball field.
Assembly is easy was harder to unfold the basket and put the frame work for it together. Then the rest of the sweeper. It is made for Sears by Agrifab.Adjusting it to your tractors hitch height is very easy and after you do this one time setup your ready to go.To adjust the brush height is a simple lever.
I find that allowing the clippings to dry a few hours before sweeping works better.Rather then trying to sweep wet clippings. To dump the basket is a simple pull of the rope.
